Some of the comments are worth a read. Apparently bikes damage the ground and wild camping is illegal in England. Who knew?!

I am already mentally prepared to walk the whole last 15km, even the down hill bit.

Re: Route advice-Cairngorm circuit

Hiya Chris, Im no expert but based on my trip last week, 1, I had no issues at all the whole way round, apparently as long as you stick to the valley bottom on main paths/tracks it shouldn't be a problem. 2, I only carried enough food for 24hours, probably carried too much plenty of chances to resup...

Re: cairngorm loop this week

I had one of the best trips I've ever had. Mainly blue skies, tail winds and very few midges. Started late from BA and had a fine midge free bivi just north of Gaick lodge. https://instagram.com/p/BKlCuRlhVlC/ Day 2 was beautiful cold start, blue skies and light winds. Stopped at the cafe at glenmor...

Me too. Will probably (try) and ride the route next year, no chance of me starting the group start though. Can't take the pressure! Happy just bumbling along at my own pace.

Thanks for that Ian. Will be going considerably slower than you though.
The roll out down Glen Tilt does look very inviting on the map.

Ive got a muddhuggger with the extender on the back of my krampus. I get the occasional tyre rub when giving it the beans, otherthan that its great, haven't really found one yet for the front.

Will have a look at those. I'm aiming to avoid people, eat good pub food occasionally and avoid people whilst riding at a leisurely pace.

Detours off the Cairngorms loop

As above really. I'm touring the CL over 4 days in 2 weeks time. Can anyone recommend any interesting or worthwhile detours. Looking to add about 100k while still finishing at Blair Atholl.

Cheers

Paul.

Re: The post man's been ...

Picked up a dually rim with a Rohloff hub for my krampus. Only had a quick spin but I like it.
The dually rim seems great as well. Certainly doesn't carry as much mud as my rabbit hole did.
Looking forward to not spending all winter cleaning Peak District grit out of my non existent derailleur.

Rohloff build. Bolt on or QR?

About to order a rohloff for my krampus ops.

What would folks on here recommend.
Quick release and tug nuts/hurdy gurdy.
Or a bolt on axle.

am I over thinking this/missed something?

Cheers

Paul.
