Re: Waterproof jacket options
Zpacks have a really good looking lightweight waterproof when it's in stock. At 3 times the breathability of the top industry standard it looks like a great jacket for bikepacking.

Longstaffs have been doing bikepacking gear and bikepacking workshop sessions a couple of times in the last year or so, so definitely worth giving them a shout!

7 between the missus and me, 2 PX Pro Carbon's, On One Lurcher, On One Inbred, 2 On One Pompino's SSCX, and a fixed On One Macinato, all built up from just the frame or frameset with nice kit but not quite the same as saying you have 7 Sevens like I saw somewhere on a bike forum a while ago!

Re: what size cassette and chainset on your bike???
I use a 20t Mountain Goat Stambecco inner with an 11-36 cassette, it means you have to modify the cranks a little by filing some material from the inner tabs on XT crank to get it to work but it's worth the effort. I have a 34t outer which means I don't use the 20t much but when I do I'm glad it's t...

The Chinese carbon hardtail with the 27+29&29+ wheel size options like what Shand are doing or the Salsa one with the huge frame space for a big framebag or just any decent carbon,ti or steel 29er hardtail really.

+1 for "the bibs" from red&white and unfortunately I'm not sponsored, bought them when they were pretty new to the market just over 12 months ago for £90 and a bit of bargain at that price, but not so much at the £125 they are now. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them though or buy an...

Re: New 29er frame suggestions
+1 for the Lurcher, I keep toying with the idea of a new steel frame bike for bikepacking duties but when it boils down it the Lurch is a great lightweight frame with bags of space for a framebag and the lighter your bike is before you start loading it up the better for me.

Re: Tubeless Cyclocross Tyres
I've used non tubeless 700x35c Schwalbe Rocket Ron's on non tubeless rims even though it's supposed to be one of the worst to setup tubeless. It took a bit of work though, adding sealant then having to keep removing the tyre and sealant to keep adding more layers of tape but percerverance payed off....

It'll be fine. Stop overthinking. https://flic.kr/p/RbYNwE https://flic.kr/p/RbYNwE This is after a couple of 5 mile commutes. The shiny surface has been completely removed. Just put a couple wraps of tape around your post first. Nothing to worry about there, Greg May & ScotRoutes are right it'...

Re: Seatpost bag on Carbon seatpost!
The abrasion effect to the carbon would be no greater than if the seatpost/bar were made from aluminium! Place a piece of carbon seatpost in a vice and rub it with a file or hacksaw, now do the same to a aluminium one ... there'll be a marked difference. There's also a difference to how the two mat...

Re: Seatpost bag on Carbon seatpost!
The abrasion effect to the carbon would be no greater than if the seatpost/bar were made from aluminium! I've been using bag's strapped to carbon for a few year's now and apart from a little scuffing I've had no problems and I'm not worried about the carbon failing. I think memories and story's from...

Re: Carbon
I feel my 29er carbon hardtail with carbon rigid forks is perfect for bikepacking, also carbon bar & seat post. I want my bike to be as light as possible while maintaining durability. Have been toying with going with carbon hoops but think that might be a step to far in the rigid stakes, alu hoo...

Re: ITT GPX online library
There's the Cambrian Trail - https://cambriantrail.wordpress.com/ at 513Km which is, errm, 513Km. Outside of Scotland it becomes quite awkward to come up with a cohesive route longer than 300Km just because of the scale of our upland areas. Yes this one did slip by me. If there's one area outside o...

If anyone's interested I have a gpx of a 350 mile looped route around the Pennine's. The route incorporates the EWE & Pennine bridleway routes starting in Hope, with about 41,000 feet of elevation gain. I think with most of the UK ITT routes being around the 150-200km mark and doubles around th...

I think with most of the UK ITT routes being around the 150-200km mark and doubles around the 200miles there isn't any middle distance routes apart from the Borders 350 before the often daunting HT 550. I think this route could be another really good warm-up route for anyone thinking about doing th...

Like others have said the small lightweight designs like the alpkit kraku are a crap for actually cooking as they just burn stuff no matter how much stirring you do. You might get better results with a wider burner and karrimor do one with an ignitor but it might not be the most robust of cookers bu...
