Re: July Trans-Alp Trip
Welcome! Wow, sounds like quite a plan. I'm never bikepacked in the Alps (or anywhere yet for that matter!) but have ridden a little bit on holiday in Germany (around Garmisch and the Black Forest) and have always found German maps very accurate and easy to follow and the routes well marked (the MTB...

Re: Which soft shell jacket
My Dare 2 B jacket arrived yesterday. Think it's worth what I paid but wouldn't pay full price on it. I'll give it a field test over the next few days and let you know how it performs. I've seen a few people on STW are reselling because of ordering the wrong size so if you're interested, you may be ...

Re: Which Stove?
Just to add to the confusion ... there's always the Rodir meths stove. It's about the fastest meths stove I've ever used, if you don't mind the extra size and use a wide(ish) pot it's fantastic. http://www.bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/pages/reviews.html Just seen your hammock review on that page. Want!

Re: Which soft shell jacket
@ dan.k that looks pretty vaguely exciting and at a great price, I always wanted to give dare2b gear ago shame they ain't got my size at that price otherwise it would in the post. I have a horrible feeling I'm going to have to pay top dollar for the rigght jacket especially at this time of year Has...

Re: MYOG ... Strap alternative.
Looks good.
I found one of these in my garage left over from my motorcycling days:

I'm sure I can do something with it to make it into a handlebar harness.

Thanks. Kind of hope it snows.
If you could let her know, that would be great. Don't get her hopes up with terms like "gentleman" though.

Thanks for this. Think I've been up there before - not your mum's house... I meant the other bits. Is there a shooting lodge up on the top?
Which spot has the best view?
What does your mum look like?

Re: UK self supported events What next?
I prefer linear routes so you feel the distance is "achieving" something. Obviously you then have transport costs to factor into events to get people back to the start etc, although with the self supportive nature of the events, if a ride ended at a public transport hub, this could be ok f...

Re: Morning all
Right, i've looked at the map and I still am struggling to decide on this. Help me out guys! I want an easy ish ride but epic views to wake up to and a pub close by so we can eat some dinner and have a few beers before heading off to sleep. Am I wanting too much? GPX or map link would be greatly app...

Hi Dan. Any ideas on where you're going to bivvy in the Peaks? If you need any tips then shout up. And pics/kit lists always welcomed :D I'm not exactly sure yet. In-laws are in New Mills so i was thinking that I'll head up long hill and find somewhere up near the viewpoint or perhaps on the other ...

Re: Groundsheet - genius or just plain dumb?
I love the geekyness of it.
I reckon for MKIII you could sew some mesh into the sides and perhaps a door at each end. For a name, you could try Tarp Evasive Nuisance Technology or T.E.N.T for short......

Re: UK self supported events What next?
Personally, I like the idea of longer non-racing events. I've spent a long time riding road and have participated in a few organised sportives and have found myself "racing" around and not enjoying or even remembering a lot of the event because I was too focused on finishing quickly. The b...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread
Kicked myself for not picking up a 1/2 price 4 season down sleeping bag during the summer but now it's 1/2 price with 40% =£36! Nevis have a look on Google before you splash out, I've just seen that bag described as 'intended for summer/indoor' use. Reading the spec I'm a little surprised they've c...

Morning all
Hi everyone, I'm new to the board so thought i'd introduce myself. I'm Dan from Croydon - South London/Surrey. Have been road riding for a few years but started off mountain biking 5 years ago. Nothing much just local trails and stuff. Have recently got back into mountain biking again and am startin...
