Re: Fat Fighters '22 - (The year of victory edition!)

Thanks.
I’ve discovered I can do more or less what I want (within reason) 4 days a week as long as I have 3 partial fasting days if 800-1000 cal and continue exercising.
Winner!

Re: So this is who lights fires ...

At the moment it’s nice to have somewhere to go where we don’t have to face the ugliness of the world at large. I agree, though the world has a habit of encroaching in on us, something I read this week that made me pause for thought. That place where I don't have to face ugliness is more private, o...

This chap links some of the double standard crap https://youtu.be/l3ZC7y7rvt0 Yikes, 43 seconds in  Seriously people, don't watch this video. In fact I think the link should be removed immediately, surely it has no place on this forum? WFIF I think the word at 43sec is ‘juicy’ However I am i...

Re: So this is who lights fires ...

Playing devils advocate one could argue that if you are going to have a fire outdoors in the UK the beach - below the average high tide line - is really the only responsible place to do so. However, given the overwhelming outdoors = fire thing in social media and advertising, the only responsible th...

Re: Mattress recommendation

I really like Exped mats but I do wish they'd perhaps now consolidate the range a little. Quite. It’s about as confusing as choosing a Schwalbe tyre  I had more than a bit of head scratching choosing a new one recently. Fortunately as I was looking second hand my choice was much reduced. In r...

Re: Bearfoot cycling shoes: such a thing?

My Mrs is well into the whole barefoot movement, natural biomechanics and such like. She and the kids only ever use barefoot shoes and I can assure you Shaf that they are indeed expensive! Less is more apparently :-bd If you have been using orthotic insoles you would need to devote time getting used...

Re: Bar harnesses - recommendation

My favourite is a Restrap one that I modified with a R&K Klickfix mount. As much as I like soft luggage I find all the strapping stuff on and off the bike pretty tedious and prefer not to have the bar harness mounted permanently. The Klickfix mod is a great remedy for this. I have brackets on bo...

Smidge in the UK/Europe Deet where insect born disease is a problem. Oh. Good reminder. Smidge is also excellent as a tick repellent. It's more or less mandatory for me as soon as Spring arrives as I'm a bit of a tick magnet. Having had Lyme Disease twice, I try to be extra careful these days Good ...

Deet where insect born disease is a problem.

The MOD issues DEET based insect repellent. When the new L85 (SA80)individual weapon was introduced in the late 80’s squaddies were melting the stock onto their faces when wearing it!

Re: Yet another sleeping mat thread.

Is there a way to check that other than patting it down? It is a few years old (and second hand) but has been looked after pretty well. It was probably only -2*C last week used with a Lamina Z bag (-6*C rated ,0*C comfort). I would normally consider myself a warm sleeper and never had any trouble wi...

Re: Yet another sleeping mat thread.

Exped Downmat HL MW should do the trick. Not sure what type of Synmat you're talking about, Thanks for the input both. I have a Synmat 7 M. Which is ok for almost all of my use. I was pretty cold using it last week in sub-zero temps with a bag that should have been fine. I have my eye on a used Dow...

Yet another sleeping mat thread.

I’m looking to kill two birds with one stone here. I’m looking for something warmer than a Synmat 7 M for me to use on the rare days I’m out when it’s below freezing. It also needs to serve my Mrs in the summer to keep her comfortable when we are family camping. I’m thinking Downmat 9 LW despite the...

2/12 done. Another post work bivi on Thursday evening. A couple of hours of back lane riding took me up into Ashclyst forest for the night. Re: Bikepacking breakfast. Keto options

I’m not doubting you. You sound like you have looked at it detail and are loosing weight as you intended, so fair enough. I just think a lot of people professing to follow a keto diet are simply eating more bacon and less bread so a few oats on a bike ride is going to make sod-all difference to thei...

Re: Bikepacking breakfast. Keto options

I doubt that the large majority of people following a keto diet are actually driving themselves into physiologic keto sis. It’s not easy to achieve and pretty unpleasant in the short to medium term.
