Re: Parking in Milngavie
I parked for a couple of nights in a quiet residential side street without problems. I chose an area with big semi detached houses, well tended gardens and no litter so you at least know the locals are unlikely to burn your car out, .

Re: Gets under your skin doesn't it.
Careful or you'll soon start to see any ride that doesn't involve strapping bags on as somewhat pointless  Catch 22. Rides that do not involve strapping bags to your bike seem pointless so you are less inclined to imbibe which leads to poor performance when you do strap bags to your bike. Tha...

Re: What Bike
No, I have a Longitude, the first model they did with the aluminium fork. Sorry Ray, so have you got a Latitude as well or am I thinking of someone else :???: didn't I once post you a bb spacer when you were building up a Latitude? Perhaps riding through the night all those times has affected me af...

Re: Borders 350/220 An Appeal.
That's a superb time by Saul in tough conditions. Is he the only finisher? I saw Andrew called it a day at Jedburgh. Crisp was a late starter on Sunday morning and bailed at Newcastleton with a mechanical. I had a great ride Ray. I'll do a write-up if I get chance but basically did the 350 route un...

Re: What Bike
I read an article in MBR I think, that said you can’t fit a suss fork to a longitude because the frame geometry isn’t corrected for a suss fork and it screws up the handling ? Ray can correct me if I'm wrong but I thought he had a Genesis Latitude, in fact I think he might have a High Latitude whic...

Re: Borders 350/220 An Appeal.
Enjoyed so much though, views from Dollar Law (I think) and descent to Broughton, the windfarm as the sun set, riding in the morning light out of Moffat and then out of Newcastleton, the Cheviots. All incredible places. Met this woman on her own riding her white horse high up on The Street. Surreal...

Re: Borders 350/220 An Appeal.
Thanks for that Donald, yes it's a very tough route. Sorry to hear you were ill but glad you enjoyed (if that's the right word) it. It took me two years to put the route together riding it in sections (discarding some and trying others) until I'd done it all. It then took me four attempts to do it i...

Re: Borders 350/220 An Appeal.
Good luck everybody. I did the section from Kielder to Kirk Yetholm on Wed night/Thurs morning. The ground up on the border ridge was very wet and slow going. Hopefully it will dry out a bit before people reach it on Sunday. Yeah, that hasn't happened  Took me 5hr 45m to do 15km over there las...

Re: Acepac bar bag
I bought the 16 litre one and it fits my MYOG harness just fine. I've not used a dual end before but find it really handy. I don't pack it full so there is space to store food when you resupply. Looks well made too. Very happy with it.

Re: What Bike
Genesis Longitude here too fitted with suss forks. I don't know how tall you are but I ride a small frame and had to fit a high rise stem to avoid the tyre contacting the bar bag when the fork compresses. As others have said, heavy but comfortable over long days.

Re: so, this Columbia outdry stuff.....
The thing I like about my Outdry is that you can just wipe it down with a damp cloth when it gets dirty rather than having to wash it which in my experience eventually leads to lack of waterproofing. I know you can re proof stuff but I've never really been satisfied with the results.

Re: Borders 350/220 An Appeal.
10 say they are turning up including two female entrants for the first time but you usually get a few don't shows. The bike hike up to The Devils Beeftub has indeed been removed and probably a good thing as after all the rain we've had it would be wet, boggy and thigh high in tussocks. The only prob...

Re: Ti tent pegs: worthwhile or liability
I bought some ti pins from alpkit once as they were in a sale but found they just pull out in soft ground. Now I just take my aluminium triangular ones and don't care about the extra weight, not that it's much.

Gorrila cages here too as they came supplied with the bike. On the rare occasions I use them I pack only the lightest stuff in them like tarp, bivi bag or down jacket.

Re: Avoiding deer stalking season - why?
A grouse shoot is much more dangerous to be around. On a lap of The Capital Trail I came across a grouse shoot who were firing across the track I was using. I couldn't go behind the shooters due to a river and fencing so waited an hour well away from them before they stopped shooting for lunch. On ...

Fettled my brakes and changed the front tyre from a WTB Trailblazer 2.8 to a Continental Cross King 2.8 as I'm looking for more grip on the front.
