Re: Lightweight mat to replace Thermarest Ultralite
I was looking at something that packs down smaller versus the ultralite. I'll be using it over a longer bikepacking adventure so comfort is also a key priority. The price and pack size of the alpkit makes it appealing.

Lightweight mat to replace Thermarest Ultralite
Is there anything that beats the Alpkit Numo?

I don't think Bikeradar has met the Bearbones lot...
I quote from this article.. https://www.bikeradar.com/beginners/gear/article/best-bike-buyers-guide-39627/ : "Adventure bikes that take luggage (typically frame bags, saddle bags and bar bags) are used for bikepacking, which is essentially touring, but with better fashion sense and hashtags.&qu...

Doing WRT and Jennride now... Still undecided between the 100miler and the lakeland200, I'm thinking the 100, I would have had my fill of hike'a'bike from the previous weekend knowing my previous route choices.

Is this a motorists company that may pay out for damages from another driver or your own insurance?

Re: cramp in shoulder blade, not had that before
If your hands are inside pogies could it mean you are not shifting around the bars? Changing positions really helps on multi day adventures, I’m all over the place with my Jones bars! I find it’s why I ache more road riding that mountain biking as you spend less time out the saddle and hand position...

Re: SPOT Tracker Renewal Fees - Being Gouged?
I don't use a SPOT but have nothing against them or their use ... but this thread does highlight how quickly we can turn something we never had, so obviously never missed into a necessity. I understand peoples reasoning for having them - I'm simply looking at the bigger picture. It's hard to go bac...

I usually take a Nikon D750 with a 24-120f4 and 15-30f2.8 lens with me on some trips for good measure, 3kg of camera equipment but worth it for the pictures!

Re: First Dynamo wheel build help!
Just some advice, a 29er doing 10-15kph may not charge a USB device. On a Patagonia tour recently I averaged 11kph for a days cycling (it was effing windy) on a 26inch wheel, the turning on and off of the device whilst charging (the screen helpfully telling me my iphone was charging!) actually deple...

Re: Solar chargers....
I have not personally used one, but every long term tourer I have talked to hasn’t had much luck. I’d highly recommend a dynohub and USB adaptor. I have used one for many long tours. This combined with a power bank will get you through even the most desolate areas!

Re: New wheels not true, Evans fobbing me off...
For anyone nearby (or happy to use mail order) I can recommend Big Mat at 18 bikes. I have a few sets of wheels from him. Including a pair of 35mm carbon rims that have covered c30,000km of mainly offroad abuse. They have been checked but have never needed any adjusting since the day they left his ...

Re: tubeless advice please
I've had Mountain Kings before and mounted them tubeless, it took weeks for the tyres to seal up due to the very porous sidewalls, they always 'bubbled' from the walls in the rain so I scrapped them and bought Schwalbe!

Re: Loaded bike weight
Just got back from cycling Patagonia, due to the conditions and duration bike packing would have been miserable so I toured it. Dry weight was 40kg. Due to 4 days in a desert with no water and food stops it maxed out at 57kg, the hike/bike parts were miserable at best... That sounds like quite an a...

I'm renting both for my Patagonia adventure. The Spot will do the tracking, and the inReach will manage the messages. Belt and braces and all. Check the satellite coverage for SPOT in the area. Because it employs geostationary /geosynchronous satellites (not sure which but certainly not low earth o...
