I don't think Bikeradar has met the Bearbones lot...
I quote from this article.. https://www.bikeradar.com/beginners/gea ... ide-39627/:
"Adventure bikes that take luggage (typically frame bags, saddle bags and bar bags) are used for bikepacking, which is essentially touring, but with better fashion sense and hashtags."

We’re all individuals, except me.
I woke up this morning but I’m still in the dark

I'd not realised that two wheeled tramp is a fashion choice...
Not so much a gravel grinder.... more a gravel (mud and tarmac) groveller...

After this morning's faux pas on commenting on some new clothes
Better weight than wisdom, a traveller cannot carry

Once you accept it, it's okay.

pretty good description I think.
offroad touring, with more suitable luggage is what I would have said.

I have to wonder whether Bikeradar are moving within the correct circles - when compared to our mug-dangling* brethren, we do appear to be the people fashion forgot.

Don't feel so left-out, the slithy touch of fashion reaches everywhere.
The move towards smaller makers for one's choice luggage rather than the larger names? Revelate rather than Ortlieb? 5/10 footwear? Jones? All fashion. Dislike of Crikey, how much? Fashion to some extent, if not plain snobbery*.
I'm as prone as the next person mind. I have an irrational dislike for roll-bags as front or rear luggage, mainly I think because I'm a snob, and they're ugly as a well known swear word and would rather carry extra weight so as not to use them. Currently.
*Living in the south east I see more than my fair share of Crikey, how much logos and shudder at much of it though some of the merino stuff they had on sale via Sport Pursuit is very comfy indeed.

Re: I don't think Bikeradar has met the Bearbones lot...
While I willingly hold my hand up to extracting the urine out of dangling, my post above was really about the practical consequence of 'bikepacking'. Many fashionable cycling items simply can't cut it and as such clothing choices are often based purely on practicality ... some of which, a high percentage of folk wouldn't be seen dead in
There'll always be snobbery and thus there'll always be inverted snobbery ... but somehow inverted snobbery seems to sit better. Perhaps that's simply because inverted snobbery is generally cheaper or maybe it's just because I'm northern with a highly developed practical streak?

I was just thinking that whilst I may look like a homeless person when out on a longer ride, my kit is a) practical and b) not cheap, but there again it's c) not needlessly expensive either. Just decent quality which hopefully works well and lasts.

I never fail to look dashing when I'm skulking around Welsh bogs and washing my face in pub toilets.
Here's Scatamah and myself waiting outside The Star for it to open during this year's Winter Event.
