Waterproof Shorts (Occasional Use)
Ahead of Torino, i'm on the look out for some waterproof shorts.
Fingers crossed it'll be warm and i'll just be in bibs, but one day it'll bounce it down.
Any recomendations for something which will pack down small for those days when its scorchio?

Gore active shell are the smallest I've found. They do work too.

Wore Madison Zenith waterproof shorts for bearstock, they were great
Waterproof and non sweaty, don't pack down too big (though I wore them the whole time). I had a pair of montane atomic pants in my bag but never used them as the shorts were great

Picked up these http://www.tweekscycles.com/cycling-clo ... oof-shorts
in a large (I take a medium and they fit perfectly) for BearStock but never wore them, they packed down small and didn't take up too much room.

Re: Waterproof Shorts (Occasional Use)
Endura Superlite w/proof shorts - lightweight and do the job. MT500 Waterproof shorts slightly heavier, better cut etc.
Re: Waterproof Shorts (Occasional Use)
Alturas are better made and comfier than Enduras IMO. Spent most of HT550 in mine last year without any issues.
Re: Waterproof Shorts (Occasional Use)
Thanks for the recommendations.
Any of these options pack down to the size of an apple?
I have some other waterproof shorts, but pack size is terrible

Are you bothered whether these are cycle specific or is it just a matter of something to slip on to keep yer plumbs dry?

Hopefully it'll be sunny, but I'm expecting the usually heavy shower.
I have a summer jacket that packs small and some over mitts which pack to nothing. Just looking for some shorts which pack down to nothing and will keep the worse of the weather away.

When you've finished searching for adult nappies, have a look for OMM Kamleika shorts

I have some Endura Heliums - ~150g I think (edit), really good, comfy enough to be in all day. Very small pack size.
The route is mainly fairly weather-resistant, the gravel stradas seem to drain well and just leave pools after heavy rain. I'll be using mudguards though : ) I just hate the spray from tarmac at speed.

What's goin' on here? People are suddenly talking about rain, waterproofs and mudguards - I never signed up for any of that. Can we get back to sunshine, perfect sunsets and no need for a tarp please.

Bah, I've seen bikepacking in one of those fancy videos done by that fashionable bikepacking company. It's all single origin coffee, baguettes and cheese.
Can't be having rain spoiling the campfire songs.

Re: Waterproof Shorts (Occasional Use)
Really pleased with my Gore Power trail shorts. Not flappy, packed down small and only 45 quid from Amazon. You just need to be patient as theyou play with the prices so only one size is cheap at a time. They seem quite small, no way could I get mediums on as a 32" waist, large thankfully wasn't a massive step up. Go on without having to take off terraduos, only complaint is I wish they had at least one pocket!
Re: Waterproof Shorts (Occasional Use)
I weighed mine just now. 155g including some dampness and mud from yesterday. They pack to about the size of a can of redbullianfitz wrote:Gore active shell are the smallest I've found. They do work too.

I have a pair of cut down goretex army DPM trousers. £12 on ebay. Goretex doesn't fray so you dont have to hem them. They weigh not much and scrunch down to very small. I stuck some velcro tabs on them so stop them flapping around. Ive been using them regularly for 3 filthy winters of Chilterns muck and they're still in top nick.

Nope, just lightweight goretex over shorts. Saw a lot of use at times on the TD.Richard G wrote:Do those come with the pad included?johnnystorm wrote:Really pleased with my Gore Power trail shorts.
Re: Waterproof Shorts (Occasional Use)
They are the newer version of what I have. Pricey but lasted well and work too.
I'd be happy to buy them again.
Re: Waterproof Shorts (Occasional Use)
I have a set of altura "semi-dry" which aren't totally waterproof, but have a toughened waterproof bit on the arse where you would get all the spray. They get used on occasion, and for the price they've been great so far. They were bought initially for when blatzing round trail centres with my friends, but have been on just when it's soaking wet and I don't want direct spray up my bum and stops me getting a gritty under-carriage
