Mechanical Disk Brake Levers

Post by Dave Barter »

What is everyone using for mech disk brake levers on flat bars? I'm after some inspiration for my current build.

I don’t, but if I did, they would be avid speed dial thingies.

Paul love lever compact on the singlespeed, old XTR something on the Troll. Both nice and thankfully both picked up on ebay stupidly cheap. Glad I've not crashed either, would replace with standard Shimano/Avid SD levers if I had to.

Both paired to BB7 mountain.

speed dials w/avid bb7s , claris 8speeds with hayes CX brakes currently - both work well

have used bb7 roads with versa 8 shifters

i did use the versas with bb7 mtbs - they were terrible needed adjusting all the time.

SDs or XT/XTR. I like XTR's most, nice lever shape but XTs perform the same, they just don't last quite as long.

Avid speed dials - mainly coz they were stock on the bike when new and very pleasant to use they are too...
Not so much a gravel grinder.... more a gravel (mud and tarmac) groveller...

Apparently the guy who founded Avid was a scalectrix (sp?) world champ. His trigger-finger feel was so well developed he started making levers for his bikes that came up to his expectations.

Speed dials and Pauls love levers compact both work well with my BB7's
The speeds dials are inexpensive and 152 - 165g depending on model
The Pauls have a lovely feel, lighter at 125g but expensive new and rare 2nd hand
