Dynamo - Recommend Me A (Cheap) Power Pack

Post by slugwash »

I've just bought a hub dynamo power converter thingy to keep my phone, camera and lights running on my forthcoming Brittany road trip. I was also thinking of taking a power pack (5000 mah +) to charge whilst riding as well. The Tigra convertor (see link below) knocks out 0.5A. What power pack would people recommend, and how long might one take to charge up. I'm guessing that my smartphone will be plugged in for most of the day to keep the power topped up whilst I'm running Strava.

Cheers,

Rich.

I have a few but for multiday use the anker 6000mah has always worked well for me. No idea on charge time as depends how long you are riding for and how fast.

It doesn't do 'pass through' charging but most cheap batteries that do seem to not last very long.

Anker can be picked up on Amazon for not much cash.

I bought one of these for my recent 4 day trip to Brittany so I can confirm it works en France.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00D5T3QK4

Weighs in at 320g

6.2 x 2.3 x 15 cm

I carry a spare phone battery too and swap it once Strava and the phone camera have drained the first. They are so cheap and it just seems much easier than having the phone cabled up all the time. Also, if you have your phone in a waterproof case an external cable is not an option.

I charged the phone batteries overnight with the battery pack.

Cheers Guys. In the meantime I've bought one of these (as mentioned in composite's blog http://www.composite-projects.co.uk/201 ... the-trail/)

I'll look into one of those bigger capacity Ankers for my September TMB trip, as I won't be running a dynamo hub on my mountain bike, so will need a bit more power in reserve. :-)
