So if the HTR is a wet one?
I managed in 70 miles yesterday to wear through a set of new pads. I also noted a good deal of wear to a fairly new drivetrain.
Having done Strathpuffer and got through a number of sets of disc pads, I'm thinking that if the HTR is a wet one, that keeping a bike operational might be an issue?

It's why I used a rohloff last year (drive), I carried 2 sets of pads as spares too.
I don't think it's quite abrasive as the peak up there though

As an armchair sitting, beer drinking HTR specialist, I'd say singlespeed it

If? When you mean!
Mud on the west coast is generally peat mixed with granite dust which destroys drive trains in short order. 560 miles should be fine though!
Done loads of multi day trips up here in pish weather, never had a problem wearing brake pads out. worth carrying a spare set though

So you're sticking to singlespeed this year Ian, not tempted to go geared at all?Ian wrote:This.voodoo_simon wrote:As an armchair sitting, beer drinking HTR specialist, I'd say singlespeed it

The answer has been staring me in the face.
I should build up my SS as a fixie once again, then there is no need for brakes.

Even though I've enjoyed SS a lot this winter, I still dont think I've got a single 100 miler by SS in me, never mine five and a half!Ian wrote:After last weekends trip; singlespeed, yes.FLV wrote:So you're sticking to singlespeed this year Ian, not tempted to go geared at all?
