Hammocks - Alternative Tarp Rigging

Post by Cheeky Monkey »

I know a few on here do a bit of hanging and hey, it might even be useful for the ground dwellers. Others may already be aware of it but just came across this via a site FF pointed me to:

Image

It's by the bloke who wrote "Ultimate Hang". I really liked his continuous tarp ridgeline set up with biners and prusiks but this one just seems nicer :?

Derek Hansen's site is here:

It's not the hammockiong wikipedia that hammockforums.net represents but his site has some really great stuff, particularly his illustrations. Personally I find them much easier to follow ;)

Hammocks are great.

I was a little surprised at the weight and bulk when I got my first one. It's not that they're exactly heavy or anything, but I just imagine (probably unrealistically, something really tiny. However, when you use one it's so much better / comfier than sleeping on the deck (although bugger all use if you've no trees ). You can go all weight-weenie about it but, IMO, the best thing about them is the comfort factor which easy outweighs the off few extra grammes.

Getting into hammocks It does seem to be a slippery slope into a rampant world of cottagers selling funny gear with lots of exotic metalware, chords, straps and bizarre fabrics. And to carry on the weird, vaguely pornographic reference, all the really good stuff comes from the States.

Too much?

it definitely appeals to me the idea of not being in a Bivvy bag busily filling with condensation!

I don't think I could use a hammock as I snore something rotten when sleeping on my back  , i'd scare the wildlife for miles around!

The wonder of modern hammocks is that it's possible to sleep in other positions. I snore like a good'un, maybe that's why I get to "enjoy my own company" on trips
