A sad day . Another oasis of peace and quiet bites the dust even though the residents won't agree with my sentiments of course. Communications "noise" can be just as annoying, in some situations, as physical noise I reckon.
Becky Williams moved there as a "dream come true". But "not prepared".... "dark ages"... "nightmare".... "daughter likes horse-riding.. accident... how would I contact somebody"..... Why move there then? Sounds a bit like people who move to the "idyllic countryside" and then start a campaign to ban cockerels from crowing
Blimey, what an old curmudgeon I am today/thisweek/thisyear

Yeah - one giant step from the 19th to the 21st century in a single bound. I've heard a rumour that we might get electricity and tarmac tooDidn't you just get fibre broadband installed?

Re: Staylittle
Tarmac? Noooo! Keep the euro-gravel...it's much smoother.

Re: Staylittle
Why would you buy an online business when you live somewhere with no internet or phone connection?
That's like moving to Leeds to set up a fishing business and then complaining that you have to drive to the sea every day.

Who bought an on-line business? ... because you're right, that'd be stupid. Why would you buy an online business when you live somewhere with no internet or phone connection?

Re: Staylittle
From the article. When Mrs Williams bought an online designer children's clothing business last year she would drive to a spot a 10 minutes from the village to check her phone messages twice a day, and while at home relied on slow and expensive satellite internet.

Well at least your running water is relatively safeBearbonesnorm wrote:Yeah - one giant step from the 19th to the 21st century in a single bound. I've heard a rumour that we might get electricity and tarmac tooDidn't you just get fibre broadband installed?

Yeah, that is a bit stupid ... although not uncommon. I'm often surprised by the number of people who move to the area then moan about all the downsides while forgetting about all the really good bits. It's a life that doesn't suit many in all honesty. From the article.
Aye, that's because it comes straight out of the ground without anyone messing about with itWell at least your running water is relatively safe

She drives 10 minutes. That says it all really. Could make it much nicer by riding.
Also I used satellite internet for 5 years, I coped. It's expensive and sh!t, but you can get by.

"She drives 10 minutes. That says it all really." . That would put her down by Stu's - seen any dodgy ladies on phones up your lane recently?
Floodgates opened now of course - Nick will probably convert his PO (proper shop, nice chat, etc) into a hipster "internet cafe" (whatever one of those might be), complete with squishy beanbags, complicated cappucino machine, avocado on toast breakfasts, etc. Plainly I don't know what I'm talking about but I've heard about these things.
Nick's place now, and after hipsterisation:
