Trans Am

Post by voodoo_simon »

Anyone else dot watching?

I see it's a close call between the top riders, although in the last day or so, it's settling down to set places now.

Without being patronising, the two girls are doing amazing battling it out for the top spots. Good to see :-bd

It has been entertaining watching. Lael and Sarah and doing amazingly, and on staggeringly low sleep levels. Seems some concern over Lee Fancourt at the moment, has he gone missing or just dark.
I'm finding myself studying the photos and the route more and more, getting sucked in for an attempt in 2017 maybe, there I've said it out loud now.

It is getting quite exciting, especially with the women riding at the front.

It's something that was kind of hinted at back in the days of the likes of Beryl Burton. When you move away from exhibitions of top end power to endurance pacing, women are able perform on a par with men. That seems to apply particularly to multi day events. I think that if we were to see the same number of women entering as men then the results distribution between the gender's would be very similar.

Lael had her DI2 battery die last night apparently.

Am I mistaken or do those pictures show Lael riding around in one of those new fangled technical garments, a cotton T-shirt?

The downsides of or worry caused by spots going wrong and/or being out of wifi zones. Found this while wondering what happened in Lee's race but on trackleaders he's moving, looks like he backtracked for a mechanical or medical.

Something to be said for sending a text when you get into a town I guess.

Last time I looked, Lee was at 881 miles ( this morning), so it does look like he's on the move again :-bd

Glued to the blue dots. I rode the route in 2011 East to West. It's a staggeringly beautiful ride. No two days are the same, even in Kansas.

For the West to East riders the challenges aren't over after Rockies and Kansas. The Ozarks in Missouri, the rollers in Kentucky and the hills through Virginia are much tougher.

I think the prevailing winds are pretty much balanced in either direction.

The pace these guys are riding on next to no sleep is astounding

I'm curious as to the 'poor' showing from Jay Petervary. He's been a consistently high finisher on the Tour Divide, I thought the TransAm would be an easier proposition, but he's been miles off the pace from the start. Has ultra endurance road riding developed some superhuman athletes that make exceptional ones look ordinary?

This is what I've read somewhere, think it was on Petervary's Facebook page.

Also saw that British man Lee has had a few bike difficulties too, waiting on spare parts or something

Jays partner had Shermers neck, so had to pull out. Could help to explain the slower times

Sprint finish for Lael Wilcox and Steffen Streich after 17 days!! Incredible! It looks like SS took the way he came after stopping for a short rest and met LW.

And it looks like she may have passed him just now too!

Although as we know Javi the racing is not always as fierce as it looks on trackleaders :-bd

Lael puuls the gap out from 5 to 7 miles...

I'm thinking this last 100 miles is the equivalent of a final km attack on the road...
