I don't like form over function but I do like things that work well and look right. If the Knog 'Oi' bell lives up to it's promises, it might just fit the bill.

I have an old school honker on my commuting bike, which gets honked daily

Was looking for something nice for my MTBs but then realised I don't really need one as at the moment there are rarely people where I'm cycling, and if there are, they're usually deaf so I just say 'EXCUSE ME'

On a related note, is anyone aware of a loud (or very loud) bell that isn't massive but sounds quite traditional

49 $ for a bell, and 34 $ for a carabiner, that can't save my life.

It must be the segment of people that drinks coffee made of special roasted some wierd blind leppard coffe farmer made, while they sport a beard, plaid shirt, smoking a pibe with an hard to obtain pipetobacco and talking about the latest card in between the spokes on their fixie that purchase stuff like that.

And I agree with the OP remark. Nice looking bell, but why on a crowdfunding site...It's not an up and coming garage project....

Crowdfunding was meant to be for the startup who couldn't get a loan from the bank to get their product out of the door not an existing company who can't extend their current overdraft.

The one from Brick Lane Bikes, whilst also nice, is £20. I know I sound tight here, but it's a bell, the thought of spending £20 is a bit painful

Ugly but very effective and very cheap

Prob i find with a bell off road is that it just ends up shaking itself to bits so doesn't last

That said, i just normally get a couple from a bikeshop that they discard after coming on new bikes, they just ask for £1 each in the Mountain Rescue tin

As a bell it's very nice. Trouble is the older generation are stone deaf and the younger generation attached to their iPods, so I may as well not have it

Those that do hear it, the response time is usually too slow that I've ridden past them by the time they've associated the ting with an approaching cyclist.

Remember that Kickstarter and the like themselves typically take 5%. Having absorbed R&D and prototyping costs, crowdfuding is therefore a relatively cost effective way for any company to assess the size of their market and ensure that they can meet tooling costs and make the first batch of a product in a profitable manner.

If you don't like it, don't back the product.

You can buy in uk though and not stupid money.

Very nice sounding bells. I've got a few and the brass version is loud and has a longer ring length that the other materials for some reason.

I made up for it by cycling a slightly longer way home and enjoyed a night time view of London from Alexandra Palace

I have got a Ding Dong bell, but it sounds nothing like the sound samples. When I ding dong it people don't move out of the way, they tend to look around with the curious look that people have on their face when they think that a long case clock is about to fall on them!
