Shimano shoe sizing.. help!

Post by petemaz »

Can anyone help please... I'm eyeing up some shimano spd shoes on chain reaction and they give a size chart where a euro 45 is equivalent to a UK size 9.5. I've got some Inov8 shoes that fit me like a glove and are size 45 but they show UK equivalent is a 10.5.
Am I missing something.... a whole shoe size difference or is CRC site wrong? ?

CRC site is wrong.

My shimano shoes have all been bought by Euro sizing and are all ok for me so far.

shimano road shoes are quite narrow.

mtb shoes don't seem as narrow.

I take a UK 9.5 in pretty much all my normal shoes. I had to size up to a 45 for Shimano MTB shoes so I'd say the CRC guide was spot on.

For reference I also have a pair of Inov-8 X-Talons (standard fit) in a UK 10/44.5 which are probably a little too snug.

I order the two most likely sizes and send the size I don't want back.

Thanks. ..this looks like my best option as they appear to offer free returns.

My normal boot size is 45, my mt91's are size 47 and my summer mt35's are 46. I do have wideish feet however.

I usually take a UK 10.5. Which equates to a euro size of 45- 46 depending on width. But for shimano it's a 47.

Sorry to add to the confusion ... but my intentions are good. I always take size 43 in proper Italian cycling shoes and I find that that is what I take in Shimano too. I have a pair of Shimano in 44 that I deliberately bought larger for fitting sealskinz underneath and these are fine for that.
So for me Shimano size is exactly the same when using socks of equal thickness.
