Trans Atlantic Way June 2016
A new event with entry fees between £280 and £380 depending on accommodation level!
It says 2,500km but I think that is just the Derry to Dublin portion, add about 300km for the Dublin > Derry and Kinsale > Cork legs. If the weather plays ball it is beautiful but could be headwind most of the way. And it may rain!
Had a few lovely weeks there in April on the Slea Head section (I also walked Brandon Mountain) and The Burren. Also runs through the county I lived in as a young lad, Mayo.

Struth Blackhound,it's nowhere near that far from Dublin to Derry. 2500km is the full route and golly it's dear.
Re: Trans Atlantic Way June 2016
I hear that Audax Ireland are planning a 2000km Wild Atlantic Way event next year with ~6 1/2 day time limit. Looking forward to finding out a few more details, but I'll bet that'll be more like £2.50...garage forecourt meals at 3am not included in the price though

Whoops! The 2,500km was meant to refer to the Derry to Kinsale section plus ~300km for the prologue from Dublin and run into Cork. Thanks for pointing that out Meraid.
Not heard about the Audax Ireland event, must check out there website. As you say Paul it will be a good few euro less. Lots of infrastructure on the route now, can already taste the fish and chips in Lahinch. Will likely do one of them but cheap will probably win.

Seems that you can choose between no hotel, hotel night before the start or hotel night before and a night when you finish.Hotels at the start, or along the way?
May the bridges you burn light your way

Re: Trans Atlantic Way June 2016
The second potential event Dyffers mentioned seems to be a little shorter at ~2,000km which maybe because it will be run under audax rules and the lack of potential controls in some places means a few short cuts to the full route. That is just a guess though. 300km per day is what they are looking at as a pace.
jameso - as Stu says accommodation is just in Dublin or Cork if you want it. Sleep under the stars or numerous hostels the rest of the time.

Re: Trans Atlantic Way June 2016
There's a price reduction as when converted into Euros it was acknowledged it looked costly. The reality is they want to look after the riders as much as possible. And yea it's a race so should take half as long as touring it. So there's a massive saving on food alone. And if you do sleep under the stars which is what the organiser (me) hopes then you've got some of the best stars in the world if you can see them that is. http://kerrydarksky.com
The price reduction is as follows
No accommodation with Bike/bag drop , tracker and memento £230.
1 nights accommodation £275
2 nights accommodation £320

Re: Trans Atlantic Way June 2016
Thanks Paul, may look into that one but I have entered a 1,200km event in Scotland in late August. I heard about the Celtic Knot event quite late last year - it goes within a mile of where I used to live.

Re: Trans Atlantic Way June 2016
Whilst Audax is being discussed, is anyone else doing the Mille Pennines?
Very tempted by the Irish ride and the highlands 1200, but have never done BCM and fancy the tan hill 600.

Still weighing up entering the MP, been enjoying audax but not done anything near that distance yet... it is a bit of a challenge though and does tick a few boxes riding through the Lakes and up to Scotland etc.
Will need to sit down and look at what else is going on next year and see if things might work out...

Re: Trans Atlantic Way June 2016
Not sure how much I can commit to in 2016 yet so Mille Pennine not really on my radar as if I can only do one I'd like a trip abroad (baby in April this year precluded PBP). As well as the Irish 2k I'm also keeping an eye on the Douze Cent 1200 in mid France in July.DrMekon wrote:Whilst Audax is being discussed, is anyone else doing the Mille Pennines?

How about we start a new 'Audax chat' thread? I don't bother with YACF much any more so more than happy to talk long distance road bikepacking on here :)

I did a SR series for the first time this year having not gone above 300km previously. Hope to continue doing it for next few years if I can. The MP looks interesting but if between the Scotland and Ireland event I may give a miss and do one later in the year.
