Hello, I have just bought an garmin Etrex 20 for the purpose of navigating the BB200, I have tell you now that with computers and tech etc I am amazingly stupid!
How do I manage to get the gpx file (when it becomes available) onto my Etrex 20? I assume a download of some sort will be required?
If anyone is kind enough to help, words of one syllable or less would be appreciated!
I think that "cut and paste" is something to do with wallpapering the bedroom

Re: Gpx file help/info please
Hopefully this should help, it's actually quite simple even for those of us who are a little challenged.
1/ Download the gpx file onto your desktop once it arrives.
2/ Plug Garmin into computer.
3/ Go to Bikehike.co.uk.
4/ Click on Course Creator.
5/ Click upload route from the box on the screen and select 'from file' then select the gpx from your desktop.
6/ Route will open on the computer screen.
7/ Click save route.
8/ Then select gps device from the choice of gps or computer.
9/ Route will be loaded onto gps.
Go into track manager on your gps menu and check the gpx file's there by pressing view map. At the start, do that again and press the GO button.

Re: Gpx file help/info please
Thanks Stu you make it look easy! I think I may still have to " phone a friend"
Re: Gpx file help/info please
Or just copy the gpx file onto the Garmin...
Can't remember which folder atm, but will do when I plug it in!

Re: Gpx file help/info please
I don't have an etrex but with an 800 you plug the Garmin in to the computer and it will show up on the 'computer' link as another drive.
Download the file you want
Click on Garmin and see if there is a folder called new files if so just drag the new file across from your download folder. It'll magically appear in your list of routes on the device.
It is entirely possible that Garmin have engineered an entirely different way to get files on to this 'hikers' device rather than the cyclists 'device' they I have!

Re: Gpx file help/info please
It's not the same as an Edge series Garmin like the 800 Ian.
Zippy pretty sure it's called GPX rather imaginatively.

Bugger! I'm planning on getting one soon so will have to learn the different file structure.ctznsmith wrote:It's not the same as an Edge series Garmin like the 800 Ian.

Re: Gpx file help/info please
It's honestly not even vaguely difficult. You can work it out the moment you just plug it in
Re: Gpx file help/info please
OK, so just plugged mine in to put the BB200 route on. You put your GPX file in the GPX folder (and then the NAV folder under that coz you want it to help you navigate)
GarminEtrexDrive\Garmin\GPX\Nav
On the garmin edge, you'll want to put it in the 'new files' folder, but as a .crs or .tcx file I find works best.
