Waterproof gilet?

I'm on the look out for a waterproof gilet ... I'd like proper waterproof, none of your water resistant or waterproof front with a mesh back nonsense

I recall Evans used to list an eVent gilet but there's no sign now and I can't remember what make it was ... anyone got any ideas besides cutting the arms off a jacket?

TNF used to make one a few years ago but they've stopped making cycling kit now. Might find some on eBay?

Isn't there an Endura that you can zip the sleeves off?

Not really your parameters but Gore make a fantastic softshell one. It's a favourite piece of kit.

Phew. I've been underwhelmed by the TNF bike kit I've bought.

I've got a Endura Convert, best piece of clothing I own, very waterproof, useful pockets, looks good, bit bulkier than the lightest jackets but means it feels like it gives more protection from the wind. I will buy another if it ever dies, but must be 7 years old and still looks good.

They make lots of sense for road biking but not so much off-road mainly due to the higher speeds on the road. A couple of scenarios:

1. Very light, scattered showers where you want to protect the body's core.
2. Perhaps more common - after a big climb you want to prevent wind chill on the descent and a sleeveless top is easier to put on than a sleeved one

Wet arms are still wet arms. In light drizzle that's fine, but so is a windproof, but in heavy rain I don't get it

I know the idea sounds stupid but so does waterproof shorts to many people. I see it as perfect for those summer days when it rains, then stops, then rains again, etc. Chances are I'd have a SS top on anyway and my arms are waterproof.

Fair point on the waterproof shorts front...

Given how quick in can turn there I suppose something for quick jaunts might be helpful, it would certainly make it packable!

I know its not what you said but I have a haglofs gillet - windproof front, mesh upper back, three rear pockets with a double ended zip along the top of them with the same wind proof fabric as the front. It has possibly the bwst DWR coating on it i've ever seen on a non-waterproof. it beads amazingly well and is very breathable. I've had it out in a short sharp downpour and faired OK.

Its what I would wear in that summer rain a bit sun a bit, or autumn drizzly, or summer cloudy and gusty sort of weather.

Purchased from sports pursuit at under half price then some extra money off for introducing others. conditions which make Haglofs a sensible price!

Cheers Ian but the mesh back puts me off ... however, I believe I may have found something. The Altura Core gilet, bumph states it's wind and waterproof, doesn't have any mesh and seems to be a fair price. It's a softshell rather than a hard shell I was looking for but it might just do the trick.
