Any good deals going on a down bag?

Post by Hoojum »

I've got a trip to the Atlas Mountains planned this spring which my 2 seasons bag won't be enough for. As I seemed to have missed out on the end of line deals on the Rab neutrino 400's, has anybody spotted any good deals on a nice -5 to -10 rated down bag?

I've been eyeing up PHD's minum 400 -5 but I'm 6.3" and would need a long which makes it just too much ££. Their Hisper -9 also takes my fancy as I'm a cold sleeper.

This Criterion looks like a potential. Anyone had any experience of them?

So I guess I'm looking for a bag similar to a Pipedream 600 that would fit my 6.3" slim build and come in under 900g. Any suggestions from my fellow 2 wheeled tramps would be appreciated.

Thanks Nathan

In Stu's own words, "deal of the century":

Not got one, yet, but I'm about to....

I'm only 6'2" but find the Vango bags (I bought a Venom 300) short/snug enough that I gave mine to the wife and bought something in long (though I do sometimes use it and am chunkier than some).

Thanks both. At 6.3" it might be a squeeze but it is a cracking deal.

Having suffered in a 2 seasons bag now for a few years and having the opportunity to buy a new one I'd happily pay a little more to lower the price and temp rating.

GairyM, out of interest what long bag did you replace the Venom400 with?

I got a really good deal on a Mountain Hardwear 'Spectre SL 20' (in long) in a half price sale in the US and happened to have a family member coming back at the time so no customs charges.

It's an amazing waterproof down bag which they don't make anymore (don't know why?).

It's also a sniff heavier than you're after.

Having looked about that Venom 400 seems unbeatable in value. Trigger pulled. Thanks for the advice.

Luckily whoever writes the bumph at F&T doesn't know much ... the Force 10 bags are much higher quality than the Vango Venoms. 95/5 700+FP down and lightweight shells on the Force 10 bags.
May the bridges you burn light your way
