WRT GPX File Needed

Post by Hoojum »

Due to a mixture of being busy and a little lazy I've not had time to create a route for the WRT. Would any of you kind peeps be up for sharing your planned route (gpx file) with me?

Last year was the first time I used a GPS and being able to follow a marker made such a big improvement to my normal start-stop map checking pace.

If I end up in a bog, I won't hold it against you...

Any help appreciated.

Following someone else's route is not necessarily a good idea, it might be too long, or two short of have too much climbing, or not go via any re-supply points/past every pub in the area. Our route is currently over 22k ft climbing, all CPs and 140 miles. It's probably too much for us (given we like the pub option in the evening) but because we've studied the map we have a number of shortcuts and options available, and we're still tweaking it.

An alternative, which given the amount of time spent looking at maps and google earth, has some appeal, would be to a) carry enough food for at least 24 hours and some way of purifying water b) plot all the cps on the two landranger maps, c) just head out looking for one at a time making decisions about when to lie down, and whether to head further East / South or to turn back towards the start/finish when you feel like it.

Nick, you quite right, I should have been more specific.

Has anybody got a route planned that;

1.Takes in as many pubs as possible.
2. Has potential re-supply points along the way.
3. There happy to share with me.

Disaster averted!

I know ideally I'd have planned my own route but using/modifying someone else's route is still preferential to nothing.

Thanks

That's what mine added up to. For reasons of making sure I'll have some fun, I'm making it shorter as we speak

Hmm. 174km; 4,136m ascent. Slightly better, still pretty ambitious. Oh well.

400m of ascent per 10 miles is pretty standard for mid Wales in my experience.

I can see you've prepared very well for this with your riding so far this year ;)
80% of your distance so far this year, and 150% of the total climbing. What could possibly go wrong :-bd
