Standards again - sorry (Ispec lever related stuff)

I think it was when lever standards were introduced I gave up trying to build bikes for others. WTH.

But, now I'm in that 'I have to learn this' stage again for my sons bike. I have some sort of inspection lever/shifter in slx form. But pretty certain the brake levers are not Ispec.

Have had a quick look on YouTube and Google/Bikeradar but I think everyone is as confused as everyone else. May they're all dyslexic too as their explanations don't seem to be helping much. Before I have a stroke ( strong feelings I know, but this sort of stuff makes my blood boil) can someone please take a look at my above picture and tell me which adaptor I needs to buy.

Money is of the essence as work is scarce and I needs his bike running ASAP. So happy to just do some zip tie stuff if someone has figured out a way. Got loads of them.

Took a look at the Wolftooth adaptors but aside from making my head hurt, I just can't spend £25 + postage on a piece of adaptor just this moment.

I'm sure your brake lever is I-spec II.
Then I'm guessing;
Can't really tell but it seems you already have a I-spec II mount on your trigger..? Half a pipe, goes between clamp of brake and bar.

Nope. See above: It's a half moon shaped piece that goes between lever and bar.

Oops... got caught in the same loop. My last concussion must have wiped out the I-spec EV story, which is the one you need. Sorry Shaf. My memory skipped a few years.

The EV adapter is put inbetween the lower two piece part of the brake clamp, you then get a thread inbetween the two bars of the clamp going around the downward facing part of your bars. In this thread goes the mount for your shifter.

So, it's an I-spec EV adapter you need for your SLX trigger.

Thanks Gian. After your first post I tried to put the half moon shape between/behind/married to the clamp bit on the brakes. I was just gonna take both parts out with me to the bars and starting fiddling about.

Then I saw your next post. Hopefully (there's a manufacturer with) the price (that) is lower than the Wolftooth stuff. I'll be using your Putoline method on the spare squealing brakes I have saved for these brand new levers.

Yes. Seen the adaptor at SJS of which I will most likely do. I think it must have been going cheap at the time and hence the purchase for another day/time. That time has obviously come.

If you decide to go down the route of converting to band-on, you'll also require one of these little covers (I think - double check and don't blame me )

It's the same scenario I just had with an XT shifter, swapping the covers took about 2 minutes

Hmmm... I have no clue why a different oil should prevent squealing... unless you pour it over the pads

It's more likely
- an alignement issue
- dirt in contact areas of adapter/frame/caliper, screw/washers/caliper, pads/cylinders etc
- glazed pads/rotor
- contaminated pads/rotor
- loud combination of a certain pad/rotor type.

Sure, I still use it and am happy about the (for me) improved feel.
I just don't see how it could possibly affect how much noise the brake makes.
