Yay, it's cheery Friday.

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Well as per ******* usual, after a sunny day, it started lashing it down just as I finished work and contemplated a bit of trail madness on the lowside. Went for a shed session instead which turned into the usual epic as I wrestled a motorcycle engine together with a fail on the crank free rotation. Crank case now in oven, offending bearing (which hadn't seated properly) in freezer, and whole house smelling of burnt engine oil

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Happy birthday for yesterday Bob. Hope the ribs are healing up.
Very cheery here - off to Torridon for a week with the mountain bike tomorrow, and part time working means I have a whole day to sort out bike, camping gear, food, and all the little bits and pieces I never seem to have time for, like downloading stuff to listen to in the car, and jobs that need doing before I go, like cutting the grass and watering the house plants, without rushing around and getting stressed.
Looks like it's going to be a tad chilly (maybe even snow!), but not too bad - should have gone this week though
Biggest dilemma currently is... Laphroaig or Ardmore...

Cheery here. Did my last indoor training session before the World Cornish Gig Pilot Championships in the Scillies next weekend (hence WRT absence). Really excited about racing something completely different but must get back to bike packing pronto.

Read that as Cornish pig pilot championships ... sounded great.
Me, I'm going paying my mortgage off this morning.

Ha! That's what you think... you think your bank will let you
Seriously though, it's a nice place to be when you're mortgage free
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Must be a nice feeling paying off the mortgage - congrats!

I did that years ago The assistant doing the transaction noted: "Ooh, you've a lot of available equity, do you want a loan?"
"No I f***ing don't! I've just paid off a cheap loan why would I want a high interest rate one?"

Can you actually walk into the bank and pay the last bit off with a bundle of twenties? Would seem a satisfying way of doing it, and make a point, given the other thread.

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Very clever how they rope people into these things. The terminology is always inverted to make it sound cuddly. "Would you like to do some equity release so you can buy something nice? ie "have some debt"; or "would you like credit?" ie "have some debt".whitestone wrote: ↑ lot of available equity, do you want a loan?" .......

Quite hilarious(?) looking back now at some of the insanity of early this century. Remember those 125% mortgages from Northern [c]Rock[-of-sh1t]? Have a house, oh you deserve a holiday too (small print: you'll still be paying us for that holiday in 25 years time long after you've lost that sun tan, hah hah)
Bonkers.

It is done but weirdly (to me at least) no one seemed very concerned about where I had found a large sum of money from

They don't care when you're giving money to them, they only care when you're taking money out. Our entire financial services industry revolves around not asking where people get their money from...

Did they convince you to take out a loan for them? .Bearlegged wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 1:56 pm I red pandas.

Anyway, now it actually is Friday, hurrah!
Got a cup of tea, a biscuit, doing a jigsaw, and listening to The Macc Lads, so all is set fair at The Perrinery.

Well I'm off for a bivvy this evening and it's sunny. If I could be bothered driving a bit further north I could get a dry day tomorrow. But I can't so will head out to a local-ish spot and hope to get back before the drizzle comes in
