Following on from my post looking for a front wheel. Nothing has turned up and the lead time on new is multiple weeks away so I’m trying think of a work around to enable me to run a RRP PRO MAX mudguard on my MK 2 Stooge with a 50mm (44.5 internal) Rabbit Hole rim whilst still give enough clearance in the fork for mud.
Appreciate the profile of a narrower tyre may be affected on a wider rim but I’ve spotted a Bontrager XR4 in 2.6. Just wondering if anyone’s tried similar before I order yet another tyre!
Cheers

Re: Narrowest useable tyre on a 50mm rim
There was a post on the Jones blog about him using schwalbe g-ones on his bike with 50mm rims - I think they were 2.2's so 2.6's will be fine I suspect.

I've got a 2.6" Nobby Nic on a 50mm rim right now. No worries.

Re: Narrowest useable tyre on a 50mm rim
I ran a 2.4" tyre on a 52mm rim (Hugo) and loved it!
Was a weird shaped tyre anyway (On-one 'Smorgasbord') and so didn't end up as silly when pulled wide as it might have otherwise.
For me it was the exposed sidewalls that worried me when considering using a smaller tyre on a bigger rim but I had zero issues.

i ran some 2.35 big apples on some hugo's. it didnt look very good, but i was ok on the road.
Re: Narrowest useable tyre on a 50mm rim
Within the road bike market, 110% of internal width was quoted to me as a minimum by SRAM.
So that would be 55mm or 2.1", if 50mm is internal.

I have 2.4 on a 50mm rim no issues , looks a bit odd but works, wouldn't use it on the front though tbh
Re: Narrowest useable tyre on a 50mm rim
I have just put a Coronado 2.8 on a 50mm. I wondered if the tyre was wide enough but on the basis of the above I will stop wondering. I will report back when I have tried it.
