Ooh, interesting. I reckon being a Vet to the event/knowing what the route is really like makes a massive difference when racing this. Ian proved this very much so in the first 20mins of the BB200 this year when he went from about 6th to 1st in the matter of one wrong turn from the rest of us, multiply that sort of thing out by the length of the HTR an that's a good few hoirs in just navigation, let alone pacing for the terrain etc.

I spent some time using memorymap to create PDFs of the route and printed them out. 47 sheets of A4!!

Am now a bit scared.

I like riding bikes - It's only the 'very long' part that is worrying me a little ;)

47 A4 sheets! That's quite a long way and a lot of weight just in maps! I am having that similar "what have I signed up to" series of thoughts.......

That's only 12 double sided A3 sheets which doesn't sound so bad ;-)
I got the BB200 course onto 2 double sided A3 sheets at 1:50k mapping for reference!

I'm going to back to back colour copy them then see how much I can trim them down.

It's good diversionary tactics to worry about the small things!

I printed double sided onto A5 but at about 1:65,000 scale in tracklogs to reduce size. It wasn't that many, 16 sheets (32 sides) I think. I binned what I didn't need as I went round. The bits where you had to navigate, as opposed to just follow the only track in existence, we're comparatively few for the distance.

I was more worried that the ink would come off and I'd end up with smudges all over my arse.

Having just done a 2 day 'nordic performance coaching course' ( on roller ski's) I can say my HTR training is going well. S£*t the last time I felt this sore and broken was basic training!
