Surly 'Corner Bar' - what do we think???
So.....any thoughts and opinions on the new Surly 'Corner Bar'???
It's a mostly drop-ish bar that enables you to use all MTB levers and shifters.
Potentially ticks a lot of boxes for many of us.

I think I like 'em ...... enough that I'm on the case.
May the bridges you burn light your way
Re: Surly 'Corner Bar' - what do we think???
Thoughts...they'll sell a load of them because they solve a massive headache for flat bar conversions.
They look like they might be comfy too.
And super lightweight.

Re: Surly 'Corner Bar' - what do we think???
Any guesses how soon the aluminium PX copy comes out?
Re: Surly 'Corner Bar' - what do we think???
Can I post the puking gnome...? Wouldn't be seen dead with that on my bike, but then I don't think I'm really the target market for that kind of thing...
There are theories at the bottom of my jargon.

They look loads better when taped up

Peculiar but might be good.
I really don't get why anyone would use this jumble of words

to convey the exceptionally simple point that "the bar is heavy"Yeah, it’s heavy as all get out

Re: Surly 'Corner Bar' - what do we think???
Do they come with a Paul brake lever?
Re: Surly 'Corner Bar' - what do we think???
No reason they should. Totally different companies.
Re: Surly 'Corner Bar' - what do we think???
Surly bars a dead feeling and very hefty.
The idea is good but pig ugly.
I am trying Mary bars upside down to see how I like em
Can still run all mtb gubbins then

Yep.
I really like the thinking behind these Corner bars, though not for me.
I'm just going outside ...

And whilst we are on the subject of stupid weird bars - https://bikepacking.com/news/velo-orange-seine-bar/ I've often wondered if a 35 degree sweep would be better than the Jones loops 45 degree so I might give these a go.
Re: Surly 'Corner Bar' - what do we think???
I've been using these with Ergon grips for a few years, cheap, light, comfortableand 35 degree sweep. I tried some PX Geoff ( Jones knock-offs) and found the sweep too extreme.htrider wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 9:43 pm And whilst we are on the subject of stupid weird bars - https://bikepacking.com/news/velo-orange-seine-bar/ I've often wondered if a 35 degree sweep would be better than the Jones loops 45 degree so I might give these a go.

Re: Surly 'Corner Bar' - what do we think???
Not available in North America until early September. A couple of months later here maybe? Keep Pedalling in Manchester will probably be your best bet to get some if/when they are available in the UKrestlessshawn wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 12:04 am Available in the Uk anywhere? Re: Surly 'Corner Bar' - what do we think???
Errr no, but then I gave up on drop bar antics a few years ago, I see the appeal of it, shifters will work okay too I recon, I'd prefer Shimano for that.

Re: Surly 'Corner Bar' - what do we think???
Nice idea and I think I'd get on with the hand position but the "cable party" puts me off.
Re: Surly 'Corner Bar' - what do we think???
Great idea, can't see the cables being any more of an issue than with backswept bars like Jones H-bars but probably worse than flat bars.
An aluminium version would be nice because these weigh a fair bit.

Like...
There can never be enough choice in bar shapes.
The idea of this general bar shape isn't that new but the pitch to make a bar that converts an MTB to drops w/o other expenses is inspired.

Apparently a phrase older than Huckleberry Finn and found in old American literature, similar to get outta here. I guess they used it as terms like that are an interesting part of culture (aware that sounds patronisingly twttish, not meant that way. I mean, the world would be boring without people's character coming into writing, art, bikes etc?)Cheeky Monkey wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 6:25 pm Peculiar but might be good.
