It was going quite well - I liked the the idea of searching for 'Lake Me' but as soon as he said "tubeless tyres don't work", I reverted to type, called him a bell-end and came back here to tell you.

He is but I think you just need to look beyond his reasoning, ignore the details and simply revel in the rant

Re: Grumpy old men
If I remember correctly, he has another video where he tells you why you should buy a gravel bike, so I think this one was all about the rant.

Re: Grumpy old men
Only got 2 minutes in. Living where I do, there are hundreds of miles of gravel roads within easy reach and it's called a gravel bike so we don't have to call it something dafter like my road bike with larger knobbly tyres that I mainly ride off road. Same old same old.
Tried again and got to 5 mins. He needs to move north and get someone to show him the basics of getting tyres set up tubeless. But then what would he do for attention I guess.....
Imagine going to pub with him

Clarkson wannabe. If I want another old white guy doing sub-Michael McIntyre-esque observational humour with aspirations towards "banter" or "edginess", I'll turn over to Dave and its interminable re-runs.

Re: Grumpy old men
I'm not sure I even lasted two minutes.
We don't need a gravelbike because there is no gravel.
But he goes mountain biking in Kent Well there are no mountains south of up North are there?

Bike clamped by the top tube, I'm out.

There's nothing less funny than someone who isn't funny trying to be funny. Lasted as far as the tubeless bollox.

Re: Grumpy old men
I didn't watch it but I did read a rant from I think an MBR journalist about bicycle standards. Basically he was pissed off with all the different standards citing certain ones that should now be used across the board. Problem is they are all modern standards (flared head tube, wide bars, os bars, BB width, hub widths) which would never have been arrived at if we had stuck to the original/old standards.

ah this is a fair point IMHO 8 years ago all my bikes were 26 ers and everything could be swapped between them. Now nothing swaps between them due to different BBS and wheel sizes [including axels] and forks and it is annoyingBasically he was pissed off with all the different standards
EVen my 29 ers have different size axles so the wheels dont swap out so I cannot even have a fast set of wheels and a grippy set of wheels
I have to be honest here and say tapered forks, bigger bars wider axles bolt through etc are all unnoticeable to me
YMMV but i dont see how divergent standards is a good thing - though the end result in 20 years may be. Personally I think it wa done to stop folklike me upgrading parts so now I have to get new bikes as 1 1/8 forks are a thing of the past [largely] as are decent 9 speed kit.

With Steve on this. I thought it was funny too ... and clearly a deliberate parody. LOL.

Re: Grumpy old men
I fancy one of those id bracelets - only £9.99 too. As the guy says, by great good fortune my name, birthday and address is the same as his.
Ok it's not high comedy but at least it's more fun than washing the car.

Re: Grumpy old men
There's nothing worse than another standards rant is there. I mean, don't people want any progress? "Yeah, let's all halt design development and install the Technical Limitation Committee to control our bikes... promote the UCI, right?". Half of it comes from consumer demand who then complain because they can't upgrade cheaply to the tech they want by just changing one thing, when they realise compatibility has caught them out. Just ride the damn bike eh? And it's just lazy journalism, those guys promote these marginal gains to the customers with all the" 9/10, you must have the new must haves" then rant about the problems they cause. I hate standards rants. ....Oh... erm, yeah.Ray Young wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 3:00 pm I didn't watch it but I did read a rant from I think an MBR journalist about bicycle standards.
