Re: BB200 2020
Did a 12 mile hike yesterday... partly as prep for the BB200, mostly to see if my hip could take it. It was actually feeling OK by the end, but big step ups are a major problem as I can only lift my leg so high (so I literally have to pick it up to get over some high stiles).
I'm going to have some push sections on my weekend square hunting rides between now and the event, so I'll see how it holds up after that.
Sore as hell today though. Walking around like I'm 60+, which is concerning, as when I'm in my 60s I'll likely feel like I'm 100+!

Re: BB200 2020
Been considering whether I could 69er my Tranny (oo-er) as a BB200 bike for a couple of years...usually whilst I'm pushing/dragging/lifting my heavyweight steel bike over or up something late at night on a BearBones event.
Finally put it together using my mates Hope/Flow rear wheel (my old Hope/Crest 26" rear was a bit worse for wear). 9.75kg; should help with the hike-a-bike. Maybe test it to destruction!
Next challenge, whether I can keep it lighter than my steel MTB (12.7kg) with all the bags and lights fitted.

Hope we can all still ride:

Maybe just trying to scare peeps into behaving properly and nowhere near our potential route but I suppose we should keep an eye on and then follow any rules.

Re: BB200 2020
Been working really hard (like a motor mouth... most dont think I have a clue of what I talk as I ride a dirty bike and its mtb, but hey-ho ) on the Brothers on Bikes group. Mentioned to a pakistani* 'tri-something' chap (to be fair he did attempt Silk Road last year and going again next) who I learnt of. My amazement when he said he'd entered and have I the route for last year. Doesn't actually own an mtb though so he'll have alot of fun.
Next day, in my enthusiasm I encouraged another chap (my mate Faruq, if you're reading Faruq, you know you need to come and have a go) who's been doing 600km audax things. Not sure if he was all that impressed even when I said he could borrow my Stan. Oh well (assuming it goes ahead) at least one Brother on BikesCC will have broken his ....
*They're not all pakistani and they're not all muslims but they are all brothers hope that's not offensive

As one of the people who lives in the at risk areas all I can say is... CLOSE THE F*CK*NG PUBS. They've been a particular sh*tshow round here of late.Blackhound wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 9:11 am Hope we can all still ride:

Re: BB200 2020
I think the government are starting to butter people up in readiness for another national lockdown, either full or partial.
Rich - the pub issue has been a problem elsewhere as well.

Nah it will be a card reader lockdown whereby you cannot see anyone unless you are paying someone some money to be there in which case we will all be fine

At least it's on a Saturday. I'll be able to have a stiff drink to recover from analysing it.

Are the new restrictions going to affect the ride? Several areas in Wales appear to be Affected

Re: BB200 2020
No reason I can see. There appears to be no travel restriction on people coming to Wales or those who live here from moving freely. What restrictions are you thinking might have an effect? Are the new restrictions going to affect the ride?

Re: BB200 2020
The BBC are reporting this:
I've not (yet) entered, really not sure how things are going to pan out. Does depend on what measures are taken to back up those restrictions I suppose plus how locals view things.People in Wales asked to avoid "unnecessary" journeys
People in Wales have been asked to avoid unnecessary journeys ahead of hundreds of thousands of people going into new lockdown restrictions.
Bridgend, Blaenau Gwent, Merthyr Tydfil and Newport face new restrictions from 18:00 BST as Covid-19 cases rise.
People will not be able to enter or leave the areas without a reasonable excuse.
But First Minister Mark Drakeford urged people across all of Wales to travel only if it was essential.

Re: BB200 2020
I mention it because Cwmcarn forest park is only open to locals, Anyone from outside the immediate area are not allowed to cycle there. As I don’t know the route yet for the BB200 I was wondering whether anywhere else was.

Re: BB200 2020
Don't know, to be honest the situation at Cwmcarn was news to me (pondering how they can possibly police that but that's an aside). However, I think the situation is somewhat different when someone is simply riding cross country and not arriving at a designated and popular riding spot.As I don’t know the route yet for the BB200 I was wondering whether anywhere else was.
At present, I really don't think there's an issue but if things change then there's no reason why the riding window can't be extended beyond the end of Oct.

I'm assuming you wouldn't be coming down that far anyway.
Great for me if you did though!
