Re: More WTF
My dad hated it.
However, whenever his scooter wouldn't start (I recall that was frequently) he was always too quick to offer to drop me off at college and then he'd take it to work. Two up was an interesting experience

OMG! My dad also had a scooter! A triumph Tina then a Li150 special and drove a reliant supervan MK3. That's how as a kid I learnt to repair mechanicals, fiberglass, spray and weld,...I should have accidentally set light to it,but it's reason why I am what I am today!
Couldn't understand why I wasn't allowed to get a moped at 16 or a 250 at 17.
Felt hard done by.
I had to cycle everywhere while my mate's rode their Peds and 250s.

Re: More WTF
Another LC/powervalve survivor here loved my strokers, I got serious into tuning them. My favourite one was a 250 for my mate coilin. I based the porting on the TZ at my friends request, I did explain it would painful to ride on the road and might use a lot of clutch after lots of porting and machining and few plug chops it was ready. It would get overtaken by pushbikes until lit hit 7 then all hell broke loose he flipped it when the vicious powerband caught him out.
Another mate brought the KR1-S, a pure race bike, they only released enough to get it legal. God that was a brutal bike. Was a sad day at Donninton when we said goodbye to the stink wheels, I miss that castrol R smell in the air before you even got to the circuit.
Happy days, like Stu I can’t believe I survived they just turned you into a lout, I also put my CR500 on the road after see the first super Moto race in the UK, false plate from my other Honda. That was dangerous, front wheel was mainly used for parking

Yep, remember them, he has told me who has done the work
On the engine but I've forgot, old age I'll find out when I see
Him, I know it's not finished yet, he's been concentrating on his

Re: More WTF
ohhhh dear I knew I shouldn't have mentioned it . no levers Stu but bolts into head. Aye tis older'n you n me - 1957 born in Newton-le-Willows. In those days you could buy a nice new cooker for the missus from the makers, and for yourself you might fancy a Lightning plane, or indeed one of these 8SVT -powered railway locomotives. Proper English engineering. Having a bit of trouble with coolant in oil so whole topside gotta come off for new seals etc. Prefer electrical side meself but got roped in; due to much looking at finger nails, tuneless whistling, and shuffling of feet by everybody else - ha. Much easier keeping tropical fish I might add. We've gone badly OT here folks .

Re: More WTF
"Not sure it matters". Yeah what the heck... gimme a topic and I'll digress from it with all speed... anyone fancy moving on to flower arranging or quantum mechanics next? Am fairly clued up on the latter but know bugger all about the former I'm afraid although I'm happy to learn. Then again, as Feynman said, if you think you understand QM then you don't understand QM. So I probably don't after all.

Re: More WTF
The factory was only a few miles up the road from me, it's now
An Aldi and a new housing estate,, I remember heavy haulage
Units carrying huge crates from the factory at Vulcan works, there
Is a housing estate there that's been there for years that used to
House all the workers.

Re: More WTF
Close, a forerunner thereof. English Electric, as per cookers and Lightnings . Yep, Vulcan Works, a sad loss. Got a bit carried away one day in the pub ages ago, mate said he fancied buying a trainset, rest of us thought that sounded fairly potty but went along with it as mates do, summat to bond over during those long winter evenings perhaps or somesuch bollocks. Wrote the cheque, but after sobering up much later we realised too late that we'd ticked the wrong box when the order form asked 'what scale?' and ended up taking delivery of a 12"-to-the-foot 73-ton model railway engine. If I'd known then what I know now I might've insisted on returning it for a refund immediately. Bikepacking is a shining beacon of sanity in comparison .Fat tyre kicker wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 7:01 pm Born in Newton le willows ? Is it a Rushton diesel then ?
