Yes saw yr post - was thinking tarp as well to cover wilder weather. What size can u pack the Rab Ascent biv. down to?

Rab quoted packed size is 13cm x 25cm (5 x 10 inch). You could reduce that a little if you didn't need the removable bug net I guess. The stuff bag mine came in is huge compared to the packed size of the bivvy bag.

Edit: just measured mine. 13cm x 25cm is easily achievable.

Wanted a bivvy that would pack into a Revelate Sweetroll bar bag but looking at yr pic, it might just compact down to go in one of the Salsa Anything bags instead

Wild1... I dont think you needs to spend Rab Ascent sort of dosh to get a bivi that fits inside a salsa anything... I just managed to get my thermarest neoair aswell as goretex army issue (its massive and weighs 950g! but costs peanuts) type into a 5L Airlok Xtra... that'll be similar size as a Salsa Anything and theres some saginess around the bag which means theres still a few ml of space left...

Did have to rack up all my brainpower to figure it out though and ended up rolling the Thermarest nicely into the bivibag...

Hey ‘redefined’ I recently aquired the neo air xtherm mat too, a mat upgrade for me but haven’t tried it outside yet, crinkles like a crisp bag tho when inflated for inspection indoors, will be interesting to see how it blocks the cold on an overnight trip.

Re bivvy choice..... as well as Rab ascent recommendations, have also had been informed on good authority - from the home office/ basecamp that the ba biv u can’t go wrong with. Initially tho. for the ba biv, just didnt fancy ordering something off eBay with someone’s old foot skin or boot laces in but I’m impressed with how that one of yrs packs down onto the fork bags there, nice and tidy. Again waterproof breathable and warm are more important than a bit of extra weight.

Meanwhile tested bike set up with fork bags on with weight in at weekend first time and was really impressed how easy it was, not too much impact on steering or general bike handling so bit of extra weight with a biv year should be ok.
