What a difference a tyre makes

Post by Taylor »

I used my singlespeed for the first time in nearly two years last night and it still had summer tyres on from the last time I'd used it.
As it was a last minute ride I didn't have time to swap them over but I thought, "it's been dry for nearly 3 weeks, what could possibly go wrong".
Conditions were soft under tyre but pretty dry.
The rear was a Maxxis Aspen, the front was a Kenda SB8.
The Aspen was absolutely fantastic, surprising grippy.
The SB8 was BLOODY lethal.
Four times the bike spat me off, I've not fell off my normal bike that many times in the last 2 years!

The Small Block eight will be coming off until it's dusty.

That is all.

See, I read that as: Four times I mistook my intentions with my ability and fell off, I've not fell off my normal bike that many times in the last 2 years! :D ;)

Tyre pressures make a massive difference too, I've recently found out different tyres on the same bike require different pressures to be comfy (gave myself white knuckle for the first time ever due to a wrong tyre pressure) :? ...and this is obviously dependent on the weight of the rider + gear. And er personal preference.

They're a black art tyres, some compounds and how they work (especially motorsport track tyres which are designed to the driver/rider, the vehicle and the track) makes my head spin :ugeek:
