Thanks Shawn, saved me a load of hassle :D .
I have decided to go at a steady pace over the two days and bivi out on The Cheviot Hills ridge rather than do it in a oner. So, anyone want to join me? Shawn?
OK, so far it's Ray and Restlessnative on an overnighter.
Paul78 in a oner.
Chew, FLV, Slarge and Sillybigfella are a maybe and loads of time for others to join in the fun :D .
Don't know what I am doing wrong but unable to download gpx file from mapmyrun. Could someone email the file to kevin DOT cunniffe AT gmail DOT com please so I can have a look at on MemoryMap. TIA
A wee taster, The Cheviot Hills "Windy Ghyll" (pre bikepack days) the highest point and St Cuthberts Cave, you can just make out the bike to the left of centre.
Yep, I'd love to bivi there but it's 90 miles from where I live, possible in a day but lots of road riding and there's not many bridleway's near to it to make a route close by. One day I'll put together a route so I end up there overnight. I could possibly back track after the solstice ride to stay there, good excuse for another night out. In fact I could throw it open to all who do the ride for a bit of a get together afterwards :D .
Is this still on? Interested, just got to work out if a train from Edinburgh to the start is possible. Would stay the second night near Holy Island and then cycle home.
PS I'm not a mental. Been lurking on here since the start, over from STW, but only recently joined once I've started buying gear
Yes, this is still on. You can get a train from Edinburgh at 6.52 am on Saturday morning with one change at Carlisle to get you to Gretna for 8.30 am, cost about £28. If your going to bivi near Holy Island then St Cuthbert's cave is a great spot, after that it would have to be somewhere along the coast north of Holy Island. Be great to have you along.
Can,t seem to quote from page one but the main information is there in the long post starting "OK guys, this is the final format with map reference points".
Im also planning to join u guys for this trip still working on the leave but its looking good just need to sort a lift up to start and how the hell im getting back no body knows, but thats a minor issue :D....
if there were enough of us would a car shuttle be of any use??
If we could take a motor over to the finish then get back to start n dump one there, bit of a drive but less hassle i think chew. Ill see if theres any stns near we could leave them safe over night. U still planning to ride the dales sometime soon :D

Hi jamiep, looks as though I'm going to be getting the train too. What way are you cycling back to Edinburgh, on the road or through the Lammermuir Hills? I may be up for joining you if your interested.

I've absolutely no route planned, although knew the John Muir Way was a pleasant and easy way home. Was just gonna go with the flow see what I fancied, although it wouldn't be via the road. I figured I'd prefer to cycle home than sit on the train.
I'm in bar booking the time off work a a train ticket tomorrow.
edit: if you had a route you wanted to try, I'm more than happy to tag along
