TDR 2017
Do we have anyone lining up on Friday?
Re: TDR 2017
There were a few UK people on the Google sheet and Ashley Benns is well on his way north (I think for a double but not sure).
Re: TDR 2017
Ahh Ashley. He started out looking like a gent last year, finished like a deranged hobo. Nice chap, if a little paranoid when sleep deprived :)Pirahna wrote:There were a few UK people on the Google sheet and Ashley Benns is well on his way north (I think for a double but not sure).
Re: TDR 2017
I've decided to spend some of my redundancy and fly out on July 26th. I'll be riding at a more leisurely pace than the racers.

Good call!Pirahna wrote:I've decided to spend some of my redundancy and fly out on July 26th. I'll be riding at a more leisurely pace than the racers.
I've plans, when baby is older, to head out for a very slow 60 day run down the route with my wife. Few years away yet. And at least another fast-ish run down.
Re: TDR 2017
I've got slightly over 60 days. I've a friend that lives in Fernie who's coming up to Banff and we'll ride back to his place. Wifey is flying out to Phoenix second week of October and we'll have a two week holiday before flying home. After that it's going to job hunting.

Sounds perfect! To whet your appetite.

Re: TDR 2017
Thanks Greg, a night at Brush Mountain is already on the list.
Re: TDR 2017
Met a french couple in Hachita last year who had ridden the whole route towing their 12 month old son in a trailer. He was 10 months old when they started in BanffI've plans, when baby is older, to head out for a very slow 60 day run down the route with my wife. Few years away yet. Well spotted man, yeah, and in the dry too! Unlike the folks the night before who ended up in a death trudge.jameso wrote:God I love that route .. top one, Bannack rd?To whet your appetite.

Makes my feet itch seeing those pictures, especially the Basin.

Re: TDR 2017
There is a chap called Jerry Sharp from Derby riding. We had a chat a couple of weeks ago. He has LEL experience and did the Bob Graham Round ten years ago so should have the mental strength to finish.
I will also be watching Glen Carter from Reno who is 66 or 67 and was going well a couple of years ago but stopped in Steamboat with issues. Determined this year. Chew and myself toured part of the route with him in '13.

I'm pretty sure Rikki Cotter and Lee Craige are on their way to do it?

Funny how time and place can leave such strong impressions. Sometimes I think I could replay most of the daylight landscapes in mind, given time. Hightened senses at the time or something like that.GregMay wrote:Well spotted man, yeah, and in the dry too! Hope Rickie C is racing
Re: TDR 2017
Good to see Josh Kato on the tracker, hopefully he has better luck this year.
Re: TDR 2017
Agree James, I keep replaying the singletrack after La Garita stores in my brain before crossing into NM. A major low point that followed with a major high point.jameso wrote:Funny how time and place can leave such strong impressions. Re: TDR 2017
The orange double track after La Garita before it goes between the two hills is one of my favourite parts of the whole ride. Unlike the single track sandy crap just after that before the airport road into Del Norte (where you see Matt Lee crash in RTD).

Re: TDR 2017
Lee's a definite AFAIK. She was talking about riding TDR, recovering for a bit, then the CTR soon after...Dave Barter wrote:I'm pretty sure Rikki Cotter and Lee Craige are on their way to do it?
Re: TDR 2017
Last I heard, Lee and Rickie were going to set off a day after the race start and ride the route at a more casual pace whilst doing some filming for the adventure syndicate.
Re: TDR 2017
Not sure how long there will able to keep to the casual pace
Re: TDR 2017
The plan is to make a film as they go. Setting off late to ride through some of the back markers and interview them. It's sort of a recce ride for a fast attempt later.liamg wrote:Last I heard, Lee and Rickie were going to set off a day after the race start and ride the route at a more casual pace whilst doing some filming for the adventure syndicate.
Although the idea of those two 'not racing' is hilarious!
Re: TDR 2017
Lee and Rickie now on the tracker.
