... and they're off. Good luck all.

Well done to Tom and Rich, truly superb effort and as Alan says, something which is now forever part of bikepacking lore. :-bd

Incredible thing for Tom to have done at 12, serious respect and well done Rich for getting him through it safely. I saw the photo on Facebook that Tom got to start the race - it was such a fairytale ending that he got to do that.

Now dotwatching the others - how does it work - were the starts staged at all or did they all just jostle off together?

I believe the latter, but I could be wrong.

Some riders have gone out pretty damn hard already.

I'm hoping that's just a Spot issue for Bob. Showing him as not started.

Spot trackers are even less accurate than your average Garmin/phone/strava. I thought Chris Hope had dropped his near the start, then it jumped 20 miles or so. Bob's looking odd though. I predict 5/6 riders going well clear well into the wee hours. My focus was on pizza in FAug, but that'll be a quick tea stop.

There seems to be a few spots stuck in Tyndrum including Lars, who had been doing a ghostly float north of Tyndrum for the last few days and then appeared on the start line this morning with a minute to spare.

Greg Cummins had an early bother about 10 miles in, but appears to have fixed the problem and has started chasing the snakes tail.

More concerning is Alex Wozniac who is heading along the south side of Loch Ramoch - is it a case of "right! Right! Nooooooo! Other right" or something more fundamental. Hopefully the former and he realises his mistake quickly.

A Mrspips post.

It's very fast at the front this year.....

I should enter next year. As I will get zero work accomplished for the next five or six days or so.

He has not gone far today. Maybe he has given up and decided to go for a wee swim.

Can anyone help me. On trackleaders every thing is in miles except 'route miles' is in km. Does anyone know how to change it from km to miles? Also my elevation map is in km?

Cheers

Mine suddenly jumped into km about an hour ago. I can't figure out how to change it back again either.

Been watching the dots most of the day then it jumps to kms, and can't see any way of changing in settings or anything, so it must be done at the level of the web page then.
A very frustrating piece of software.
Note Javi's problems with it not working until he plugged it into a laptop !

With software if there are no instructions it's just like hunting a needle in the dark... grrrhhh

just looking at all the riders and time/distance so far today.
some of the backmarkers are only 30 miles in. if they are riders from other countries in the world, would they still have to do a qualifying ride like riders from the uk do?

TBH I don't think it's an issue that some folk have done "only" 30 miles, it's that the fast folk are just SO fast now.
