Tern rear light - simple yet clever.
Just come cross the Tern (those of foldy up bicycles) Vizy rear light. Cunningly simple, yet if it works as intended I can see it being very useful on unlit lanes and the like. Not only does it do what a normal rear light does, it also projects a red beam down and around the bike ... I'd imagine it must help with general visibility and maybe increase passing distance?

That's a great idea .. Used to use a Sigma Mono mainly for its diffusion effect, had good side vis as well as up-down scatter. Lit up the rear of the bike really well. Shonky electrics though, had 2 fail.

Was half interested until I saw the price

Not cheap at 40 euro but I think it's reasonable (a) given what it does and (b) the price of something like an Exposure rear light ... what price safety*Was half interested until I saw the price

I do something similar with a couple of spare knog lights, I attach them pointing at the road underneath the bike and it really makes a big difference In visibility especially from the side.

Definitely going to try that. Plus, if one goes for whatever reason, you have a backup.BigdummySteve wrote:I do something similar with a couple of spare knog lights, I attach them pointing at the road underneath the bike and it really makes a big difference In visibility especially from the side.

You could also run another Exposure rearlight off the Revo if you joined the connections together. The light is so bright anyway, having two, one downward and one rearward, would still have a big impact.

Nice idea, but the area it projects is not a safe passing distance.

Based on my ride today I could have chainsaws attached and I still wouldn't have a chance of getting people to give me a reasonable amount of room.
What pisses me off is that I've noticed it's far worse in my home area than virtually anywhere else I've ever cycled.

Maybe not but hopefully better / safer than the 3" you usually get handed?but the area it projects is not a safe passing distance.
