Re: Hike a bike - your view

I did Ben Nevis once on a Saturday, rammed with three-peakers. Carried to the top and bottom, oh how I laughed all the way. But sat here I'm strangely glad I did do it as I can claim my place in the top 1% of fecking idiots of all time.

The Shindig 2014 - A video

Ok, you know what to expect. Seriously dodgy hand held camera work, amateur editing, dated music, swearing. Here is my video diary from the Shindig event kindly organised by zigrat. Write up to follow when I get a little more time. https://vimeo.com/106395266 Thanks to all who rode with me and made ...

Re: New compact camera with short movie capability

Main advantages of compact over phone for me are:- a) I can carry spare batteries and not have to fanny about with charging pack mid ride b) spare SD cards so endless capacity c) no fannying about with lock screens d) proper zoom, not optical e) works fine in gloves f) can't be interrupted by my dau...

Re: New compact camera with short movie capability

I use a Canon S110 because I love the stills it produces and cannot be arsed with camera/bar mounting. My style of filming is exceedingly dangerous and not to be recommended as one handed riding often has its consequences. I find it so simple though to hoik the camera out of a strap mounted holster ...

Re: Shindig Discussion

It was an ace event, top top marks to Bryan for organising it and everyone else for just being fab. The northern loop worked for me as I was in a bit of a rush to get home the NCN section on the West was not exactly gnarl to the max. This was made up for after Aberfoyle on the way back to Milngavie,...

That's a damn fine idea and I wish I'd have thought of it. I'll think of you as I drive past Friday night, flash a beacon toward Shap if you want picking up ;-)

Re: Dazzler uk maps always on ioffer?

Almost definitely will not work on anything but a Garmin device or map s/w. The ioffer SD cards have the maps in Garmin IMG format which is proprietary and looks like a mini-filesystem. You'll have to reverse engineer this into whatever Viewranger uses which I think is a tile cache of lots of map ti...

Re: Shindig Discussion

Good point on solid rock, I'm driving up from Swindon Friday PM. Anyone want a lift? If you are not too far from M5/M6 I can offer a decent punk rock/new wave motorway soundtrack and a bunk in a motorhome that is currently slightly leaky.

Re: Do you sometimes wish you'd taken a different path?

Isn't bikepacking ace precisely because the lifestyles we lead are so far from it? The bloke's video just underlines that for me, but if I did what he does full time, I'd escape by putting on a shirt and tie or something.

Re: Do you sometimes wish you'd taken a different path?

Excellent vid but the rant is sub-standard with a distinct lack of pointing and toys only being shown the view from the pram rather than full on ejection.
