Re: Best dropouts for ss or rohloff ?

Sounds like op has a 12mm bolt through frame and has changed direction on getting a frame alteration.

Re: Best dropouts for ss or rohloff ?

12mm bolt through axle?

Then just go with a Rohloff chain tensioner and OEM2 (A12 - bolt through version) axle plate and Monkey bone disk adapter and you will be neat and ready to roll.

Re: Best dropouts for ss or rohloff ?

Tony. The ECR will work well with a Rohloff. My Krampus does. I have a qr Rohloff with a Allen key operated skewer. I use a Surly Tuggnut to help stop slipping. I use an OEM2 axle plate that works with a Monkeybone disk mount. It works fine. Your ECR doesn’t need the Monkeybone as it has an integrat...

This is correct but a qr wheel will sit perfectly well in a Rohloff OEM dropout. I’ve done that only last month to try an SS set up.

Re: Best dropouts for ss or rohloff ?

I would say that it’s Rohloff OEM1 dropouts - the key feature is a slotted (vertical) left hand dropout that works with the axle plate on the hub and acts as the torque arm. These could be sliding/rocker like on a Salsa or fixed to work with an EBb like on a Thorn or fixed to work with a chain tensi...

Re: A Q for the hammock users.

For me it’s this: Hammocking is an activity in it’s own right. If I want to sleep in a hammock I’ll organise a trip around it. If I just want to go on a trip, I’ll ground sleep as it’s way more convenient, lighter and simpler. Whilst it’s true to point out that hammocks can to some places a bivi can...

Let’s talk torque

The multi tool thread showed that some folk are carrying torque wrenches on rides. When I saw that I was  I own two torque wrenches that cover most values but they rarely come out of their cases. I see torque values quoted as a guide to either finger snug things or crank things hard but don’t...

Oddly, the more road biased the bike, the less it gets changed. Maintained yes, but changed less.
Snap.
My only road bike (of the roadie variety) was bought whole (custom spec) and has remained largely the same since 2011/212

All the time. My Fargo especially has many guises - different tyre size, rigid steel, rigid carbon and suss forks, aero bars/no aero bars and multiple carry options. In addition, I only ever bought two whole MTB’s. A Dawes Nomad in something like 87 or 88 and a Spesh Stumpy in 1990. All my other bik...

Re: Yeah this really helps ...

Just perch it on a convenient bit of garden gubbins - brick, flowerpot etc. The bottom gets hot and scorches grass that’s all. Won’t hurt Sean’s patio! If it’s for making fire with kids consider a fire bowl or bbq. The fire box stoves are pretty small and not exactly suited for sitting around and ge...

A Royce square taper BB to pair with my trusty old Middleburn cranks.
The last one gave 15 years of service on one set of bearings.
I’ll be sending that one back for a refurb in the spring so I should be good till 2050!

Re: New biodegradable no ammonia tyre sealant

I’ve been using it a while now. Swapped the from standard Effetto stuff. It evaporates or dries over 6 weeks or 2 months maybe. Doesn’t leave much gunk behind when it does so I’m just topping up through the valve as I remember. You need to use as much as 20% more than the app recommendation for stan...

Good luck with that.
Having lived in a 5m bell tent for more than 159 days this year I can highly recommend them! I’d consider a 6m though if you want plenty of room and folk on camp cots. The sloping roof limits the really useful space.

Re: Would you ride this?

My guess is that, judging by the reaction of the walkers and how the lead rider is riding, it’s not as precarious as it looks. But perhaps not ‘perfectly safe’

Thanks for looking James.
It’s the right bike. That hanger is not quite right. I already got one, and another from eBay.
A dremel could maybe get the eBay one working.
Apparently Ribble are expecting a batch of hangers for approval ‘soon’
