SRAM brakes
Not touched them since the godawful Codes (IIRC). Only brakes that ever failed on me when riding.
I just stick to Hope. They work and you can work on them

Re: Bikepacking hall of fame?
But... I tend to struggle with getting excited by some person who did something. Ditto Not that there aren't lovely and great people but HoF is just (to me) a continuum of the Industry-Awards-genre which is a broadly horseshit endeavor of mutual-back-slapping for those that can be bothered to write...

That's a very good pointBearlegged wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2023 7:14 pm I'd not want to use velcro for an under the down tube strap, it'll end up full of cack. Voiles work well IME.

Re: Straps to fasten oversize bottles
Bananafingers has some voile-like straps on sale. I have them and like because unlike Voile they don't go really broad as the strap length increases. Think they're by Sea2Summit or maybe Exped. Polaris also do velcro straps (the version that has hook and loop throughout so sticks to itself at any po...

Re: Thunderstorms
I was in the Lakes last weekend. After a lazy session got itchy feet and was going to paddle on the lake. Started raining but wasn't bothered, not made of sugar and being out in the rain is a often a remarkably pleasant experience. Kyboshed those plans as it started to thunder and lightening  S...

Shimano gave me bad knees, Time's didn't. My knees like the float and my cleat-set-up-skills are probably a bit pony. Time's let me get away with it.
YMMV

Re: Achilles swelling, experiences and tips?
Had achilles issues previously but from climbing not riding. Ice therapy - cube in a cloth and then worked gently over injury area for 2 to 4 minutes. Reduce inflamation and encourage blood flow. Repeat a few times a day. I wonder if it might be a bit less "full-on" chilling and more local...

Cheap-ish and not tooooo heavy so could be something to try and/or base of a MYOG.
Although reading the description this had me scratching my head:

Drawstring - Secure your belongings in place, can also help to compress the contents if you've over packed

Tried sportshoes.com?
Seem to be stocking a wider array of gear and stuff can be keenly priced.

Re: Waterproof Jacket Recommendations
I accept the outdrys are not the most breathable. However, I've out sweated every single hardshell I've used so it's (for me) more about whether the level of internal moisture is bearable or not. Most importantly to me, outdrys aren't as dependent on a DWR like other hardshells. I seem to be able to...

My experience is very similar to Dyffers' Hiring in May it was a code from DVLA re: points and endorsements, got it on my phone whilst standing at counter and shared with rep. All good, easy peasy. Beware upgrades or alternatives as the number they quote is per day not total over hire period (oops :...

Re: Sleeping mat recommendations please
I have a downmat 7 and 9, which are both ludicrously warm. I'm not sure how I ended up with two :???: However they're c.600 and 700 grams respectively (IIRCC). Also have a Hyperlite (think it's been renamed the Ultra, maybe 1R or 2R) which is synthetic, much lighter (c.350g, IIRC), less bulky and ha...

Exped for my money. Not that I've used a Thermarest in decades. So, sample set of 1 (brand)
Saying that I've used (and rapidly got rid of) Alpkit mats, including the sh1tty li-lo that manifests as a mat (yes, I'm looking at you Numo)

Flip open the hub QR (if you have them) and leave it in highest gear. All makes jumping on and pedaling off more awkward. Try not to forget when you get back on

Re: frames similar to the Ti fargo, but in tough gas pipe?
I've had a Gryphon for a longtime. It's a great bike. Think V2 or maybe V1. For me at an average height but a bit apey and a totally MTB background I *needed* a decent spacer stack and a high-rise stem, just mentioning, it's not a flaw or problem. They even do a Ti version (F&F) on special order...

Have we done PHD's quilts? New to me but quite possibly old news to many :???: Typical PHD pricing as well (not arguing up or down about it, just know it's much more than I could justify to myself) starting c.£400 and max'ing out at £600+. https://www.phdesigns.co.uk/catalog/all-products?keywords=ba...
