Re: Sleeping mat upgrade

I'd never considered sliding the mat inside the bag with me, that may well be something to consider! You'll be needing a big bivi bag, those lilo type sleeping mats are quite bulky once inflated. I took one cycle touring with my Gelert Solo tent and, not having tried the two in combination before, ...

Re: Sleeping mat upgrade

I'll experiment by try packing an empty water bottle and the sleeping bag in to the AirLok just to gauge how well it will fit. If you pack those mats (and many others) down too tight you tend to get a lot of leaks around the valve area. I now roll mine around the inside of the dry bag and stuff the...

Re: TMB in September

A slight change to my plans..... Firstly, I've changed my flights to 19th Sept out and 27th Sept return. This is to fit in with my two companions who can't make my original dates. I don't know if you're free from childcare duties on that week Gairy? Secondly, my intrepid fellow cyclists have formed ...

Re: Show me your cook kit!

This is my multiday, weight not too much of an issue setup. I've replaced the Trangia frying pan/lid with a silicon bowl from the pound shop, and added an extra pan from another Trangia set which I only use to boil water or make (cowboy) coffee in..... https://farm1.staticflickr.com/402/19663878146_...

Re: Rear lights

I got one of these the other day from T K Maxx for £5.99. It easily fits to your jersey, waterproof, rucksack, rear pack or whatever so it's always easy to configure it with what ever situation/set-up you find yourself in when the fog, mist or darkness rolls in. Despite looking like a front light th...

Cheers Gairy. I'm currently bikepacking in Brittany and have a boil the size of a pain au raison on my butt. Hopefully it'll have subsided by September otherwise I'll be walking the TMB instead :o

Looks interesting, I'll have to nip over to W H Smiths later and read the article in Singletrack.

BTW, does two lambs near Hexworthy trump mutton elsewhere on the moor? ;-)

Dynamo - Recommend Me A (Cheap) Power Pack

I've just bought a hub dynamo power converter thingy to keep my phone, camera and lights running on my forthcoming Brittany road trip. I was also thinking of taking a power pack (5000 mah +) to charge whilst riding as well. The Tigra convertor (see link below) knocks out 0.5A. What power pack would ...

Hi Matt,

I'll be arriving in Chamonix on Wednesday 16th September, but may wait a couple of days before starting the TMB, I'm then leaving the following Thursday (I think?). You're more than welcome to come along if you think you're up to it

Re: TMB in September

Obviously nothing is set in stone but it'd be good to pencil in a weekend and the flights will only get more expensive the longer people leave it. Hi Gari, My Easyjet flight was £137 return from Bristol including the bike, so not too bad. But like you say, they probably won't be getting any cheaper...

Re: Bivvy a month 2015

6/6 Friday night saw the second June Dartmoor bivi take place (although the first one of the month by bike). After a trawl through the freshly sprouted, trail obscuring bracken to Jim's recently discovered "Secret Valley" we found a bunch of D of Eers on our intended bivi spot, so ended up...

Re: BIvi spots on Dartmoor?

Allright then, I've been a bit busy recently so hopefully not too late, here’s some bivi spots mainly on the southern moor. These all have water nearby, either from springs, streams or leats. Our current personal favourite is the old tin mines at Hooten Wheals. Lovely views, lots of gullies and work...

Do you think you'd be able to run a Cree light (less than 600 Lumen) with a USB cable off your set up, possibly through the cache battery so it keeps a constant light level ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350LM-CREE-XPE-R3-White-USB-Bike-Light-Lamp-Shade-360-Rotating-Bracket-/221485672645?pt=LH_DefaultD...

My free dates are 11th-22nd September so, unfortunately, those weekends don't work for me. Definitely interested. I've booked 14th - 22nd September off work with a view to doing this, and other riding stuff in the area (but am also getting pressure to do Lisbon - Santander instead). I've got some flexibility on dates, but early September is out for me.

Re: titanium frames

I'm not sure about vertical flexing but there's a lot of lateral flex in the rear triangle of my Ti SS when I'm honking up a steep climb & out of the saddle. I've had to fit narrower tyres in the rear to stop them from rubbing against the chain stays. It's an old frame though, so maybe not a pro...

Well, that's my first April bivi popped in a sack with a brick and thrown in the canal. Hope to get at least another one in before it's time to dance around the village Maypole and sacrifice an incoming caravan driver in a flaming wicker effigy.
