I managed in 70 miles yesterday to wear through a set of new pads. I also noted a good deal of wear to a fairly new drivetrain.
Having done Strathpuffer and got through a number of sets of disc pads, I'm thinking that if the HTR is a wet one, that keeping a bike operational might be an issue?

Re: Peak District ITT. developing one
There are a number of bits we did yesterday, that I never go near when the ground is wet. Rideable in the dry, a push in the wet.
I'd be inclined to ride it the other way round too.

Re: Peak District ITT. developing one
That's a shame rich. I had money on you for the top time My money was on Mark McP (last seen on Cut Gate) I knew he'd ride away from me. I held Ian off to near the bottom of Cut Gate, We said "see you on the Longendale", but my bar bag mount snapped, so I wasted some time there moving my ...

Re: Peak District ITT. developing one
I jacked at Parsley Hey.
Sore knees, and conditions meant I was walking far more than I should have. I "may" not have had the ideal bike.
Mark was having some issues, but continued on ~9pm from Parsley I gave him my food, as he'd be unlikely to make the chippy in Bakewell.

Re: Shoes - A quandary.
Thanks for all the advice. I picked up a pair of Giro Junctions from Koo bikes for <£40. They look like they'll be up to the job. Bendy at the toe for walking, and a fairly rigid mid sole. The tread looks good for mud, but probably is a bit hard for slippy rock, Plenty of toe room. Laced up like fel...

Re: Peak District ITT. developing one
You can have extra beer afterwards for riding a CX bike :-) I'm hoping the pub won't yet be open when I get back. I was looking at pictures of Jacobs Ladder earlier and worried that a rigid 29er may not be ideal, but I feel slightly better now! Packed nice and light as well - are you able to...

Shoes - A quandary.
I've always been a SPD shoe wearer. Sidi are my faves, but I've used others. All of them XC race types. I'm considering my footwear for the HTR and have to say that none of the SPD shoes I have worn have ever been comfortable for walking in, and I understand that the HTR has plenty of walking. So I'...

Re: Peak District ITT. developing one
Hopefully I'll be there on Saturday. I've turned down a trip to the Tour of Flanders to do this.
I just need some bits from the postie to get one of two bikes trail worthy else I'll be riding on my road bike.

Re: GPS Fears, Spares and Maps...
I've no had problems with my Dakota, but did notice it could be slow if I put big routes into it or left it recording for ages. For the HT I have split the route so there are around 500 trackpoints per section. I tend to save the data every 12 hours, and clear the cache. There is a utility somewhere...

Re: RatRace Crossing - Am I missing something?
I don't see the problem. I help on some commercial road cycling trips which the customers could do for less money. They don't want to, they'd rather pay an extra few quid and have knowledge that the riding for the day is viable, the route is a safe one, and when they get to the end of the day there ...
