Are you giving up pack rafting?

Your eBay listing is doing very well - nearly got enough for a new one! 😳

Re: Simplifying the garage. What shall I keep?

I’m mulling over the same things. My problem is that most of my bikes settle round the heavy duty off-road tourer kind of thing so there is too much overlap. I have a Rohloffed Troll that I should move on or canabalise… but I am quite attached to it even though it would never beat a 29er in a “which...

Re: Big Agnes tent experts......

The Copper Spur looks, superficially at least, similar to the MSR Hubba Hubba. Does anyone have experience of both? I have a Hubba Hubba HP and it is OK in wind but not brilliant and it’s not that light. I like it but the groundsheet seems like it may be starting to go tacky and was thinking of a BI...

Re: Coldest driest climate?

I lived in Bolivia for years. I quite enjoyed the climate but hell, I was so glad to see some clouds at the end of the dry season. Every day you wake up and it’s sunny and clear. When you do that in the UK you get that I mustn’t waste the day feeling. In Bolivia I had that every day and it makes you...

I am 6’1” ish and built big and a stone heavier than you. I wear an XL. It is a bit boxy but I find the arms reasonably long enough. I wouldn’t be surprised if a large would fit you.

Re: Wet Gear Query

It works better than anything else. I know others find otherwise but with a good wicking base layer it keeps me much drier than a conventional shell jacket. The paramo grids are great for that. It can be a bit hot in high summer but when it’s properly raining in most uk conditions it doesn’t seem to...

Re: Wet Gear Query

Are there any other super sweaters out there? The sort who leave a sodden imprint in the gym, are dripping after 10 minutes on the bike and cannot find a jacket that breathes enough to stay dry? After years of experimenting with different fabrics, I've given up and resigned myself to getting wet, o...

Re: 'Modern' long geo frames with Jones bars?

I use Jones bars on a mk1 Longitude. The Longitude isnt modern LLS geo as it has a slacker seat tube, but it is longish... It has a 638mm effective tt (I think) and I use a short stem. Anyway, it works really well. It’s super comfy and quite capable all round. My only complaint about the bike is ty...

Re: Wet Gear Query

I've had (still got) a couple of Paramo things including the Velez. They are good for a few hours of rain, they do wet out eventually. Heavy and bulky to carry when it is dry. My experience is that if they are treated they don’t wet out... or at least the outer may be or look wet but it still works...

Re: Wet Gear Query

Whereas I will enter with my stuck record line to say that the only top that has ever worked for me is a Paramo Vélez Lite. Just to check, will you be dry underneath it in prolonged heavy rain? I'm coming round to the idea that I could justify carrying a heavier waterproof if it 1) keeps me dry 2) ...

Whereas I will enter with my stuck record line to say that the only top that has ever worked for me is a Paramo Vélez Lite. Yes I do run hot too and it can get hot in very warm summer rain, but usually it’s fine and copes with being patched really well. I can ride for 12 hours in it and climb into t...

Re: Going tubeless...

While out for a ride it occurred to me that going tubeless has changed my behaviour. Whereas I used to avoid tracks and paths where there has been recent hawthorn hedge cutting or heavy bramble /scrub clearance - that’s usually a lot round Gower, I just go where I want now and ignore the risk of tho...

Re: Fatpackers: 26x4 v 27.5x3

I have ridden miles on JJs on and off road. They roll just fine. A lot of the difference is in how the fat bike feels is in how it steers/handles rather than in the rolling resistance.

Re: Oval rings. Absolute Black or Absolute B*ll*cks?

I had an oval ring on my longitude. I have a suspicion that it made my knees hurt. I know some people say the opposite but after nearly 50 years of round rings (with a few biopace chucked in) I guess I’m habituated to round. I swapped back to round and immediately felt more comfortable. It may of co...

Re: Help me with my creak

I had a stubborn creak on a SRAM chainset. I fiddled with the chainring bolts numerous times to no avail. In the end I removed the spider (it was an X9 and I didn’t know the spider was removable until I looked) and greased the spider to crank splines and the creak disappeared. You say you don’t have...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

I fitted one of those 2.6 Mezcal tyres on a Halo rim/hub on my Longitude. The tyre was ok but I prefer the Teravail Cumberland; so I put that back on. I will have a think, but if I don’t want the Mezcal I will stick it on here for sale as I know some people like them. The Halo wheel is a nice job an...

Re: Going tubeless...

I've been running all off road bikes tubeless for about 7 years now. Tyre pressures obvs depends on many factors. Enve do a good calculator. FWIW I run 35psi on 42mm tyres and 21 psi on 55mm. I still think tubeless is a real faff that is only just justifiable. I can't believe someone can't develop ...

The end room of the bothy stank of stale smoke, there were dubious leaflets and posters all over the bothy and when we bumped into the...
