Re: 29 plus tyre/rim combo

Schwalbe G-One or Big-One would be well worth considering, seem to come up a good size, light and fast rolling. EDIT: Turns out the 2.35 Big-One will fit a 50mm rim, comes out at a touch under 65mm wide. £40 here: http://nextday.bike/details.aspx/11600817-29-Schwalbe-BigOne-235/1875 £23 here: https...

I believe Charlie Kelly and Joe Breeze are spending the day with Charlie the Bikemonger (and paying guests) this Saturday in Swanage (and probably the Square & Compass!). They're also in sunny scunny on Monday. All dates here: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=349318&...

Re: Where it started for you

The seed, in 1996 I spent a week in the highlands with D of E, fell in love with the place but out of love with carrying such a stupid amount of kit on my bike. Went into bikepacking Hibernation from then till 2008. Seems to be a common theme, disheartening early experience plants seed for future ge...

Re: OT inflatable kayaks

Lidl were recently selling them for £40. If you can track one down it could be an inexpensive way to try it out. Aldi  https://www.aldi.co.uk/crane-inflatable-kayak/p/094857153602600 call me a cynic but from what I know about cycling (and that's not much) sometimes cheap often equals just che...

Re: Via Dinarica - Albania to Slovenia

My only personal experience of the region is going clubbing in Slovenia for a weekend, they love their techno! no biking was involved sadly but plenty of drinking and much fun was had, great place. I did spot this a while back that may be of interest: http://www.bikepacking.com/routes/bikepacking-sl...

Re: Fitting a roll on this??

Depends in what bar roll you have, but get some 30mm PVC pipe and cut a couple of short lengths. These can then be used as spacer to move the wrap away from the bars. Pics of people doing it here: http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/diy-make-your-own-gear-(myog)/cheap-handlebar-stand-offs/ will try th...

Fitting a roll on this??

http://d2plslj6xljffa.cloudfront.net/imgs/products/px/950x600_constWH/HBOOOG_P7.jpg?v=y I've just fitted these on one OG bars to my bike (really liking them btw, v-comfy hand position) and can't now fit bar mounted dry bag without excessive squashing of cables and hoses. As brake hoses are right in...

Planet X OG bars arrived today. Hand position feels good.
I think strapping a bar roll on will be tricky as hoses and cables are right in the way. We'll see.

Re: Which 2nd hand gps?

I suspect you may be pushed for space with 64MB of storage for mapping. My trusty Etrex20 (not the newer X model) will take a 2GB SD card and hold a large chunk of UK OS maps. Some people love the touch screen of the other models, but for me, simple is better and AA batteries can be sourced most an...

The thing that I'll remember most is the hospitality of everyone we met en route. Will they accept an sd card? If not, I wouldn't bother as you'll have limited mapping options.
