Re: Winter gravel

Have you looked at G-One Ultrabite?
I find the tyre breakdown compounds execution technology too confusing but I think 'super ground' matches your spec.

Re: Todays ride

End of summer? An unexpected fine day yesterday so went for a long ride to Starcross and back. The Exe Trail was packed with all types, sizes, and ages of bikes and riders. Sun was hot, sky was clear, less flying things hitting me in the face. Exeter Quay was packed as I put a loop in up the St Davi...

There must be a law of conservation of off roaders as I have found mine again. :|
Just walk away and have a rest. Winters coming so explore other things and maybe
one day you might get back on yer bike and really enjoy it.

I need another set of wheels.

Light & Motion Seca? A bit spendy and probably need extra batteries.

Mountain Warehouse one works fine.

edit as we don't have midges but other winged bitey stingy things I took to wrapping my cycle helmet in my head net to stop things dancing on top of my head this summer.
Points for double use?

Re: XT M8000

Would it be something as simple as you forgot to move the clutch lever to on after replacing the back wheel? I do it all the time. I don't pretend to understand why because it is set up with clutch off but that lever just moves between a grindy horrible gear change and smooth silent (almost) gear ch...

Re: What Handlebar Bell - I know forgive me

Beware the cheap pinger bells sold in LBSs. This is the type that are a dome on a central pillar with a sprung pinger - they/mine don't work in the rain. Water gets into the support bit and the resulting dull sound cannot be heard. My Knog Oi seems to keep working in all weathers but rather annoying...

Dorset to Norfolk

It's a ride review with not a lot of route information but you could probably work it out easily. Interesting variation on a tarp pitch in one of the photos. https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2020/aug/24/great-ridgeway-cycle-path-dorset-to-norfolk-by-bike-ancient-walking-trails (Apologies if alread...

First real rain this week saw me pwt and discovering the limits of the G-One Allround tyres in mud.
After wasting a morning trying to find some alternative tyres put the MK2s on.
Reckon they will see me through the winter unless it turns dry or I go back to just riding the Exe Trail.

Peter Storm waterproof overtrousers from Millets. Cheap, light, rubbish spec and I will replace them if they ever wearout which they haven't done for more years than I care to remember. I also have Montane Minimus which are a rubbish design and channel water straight into my boots so I need to wear ...

Re: Come back 2x, all is forgiven!

Quite happy with 2x11 but notice 11 speed chains are getting harder to find at a reasonable price. If I see one in a sale I usually buy it. Shimano seems to have rebranded (downgraded) 11 speed as e-bike. The one good thing on the Fargo was the 2x10 SRAM drive chain. I did consider it for the Stooge...

Re: Drive train cleaner / degreaser?

Another vote for Purple Extreme not creating clag. I clean my chain weekly with a WD40 soaked rag until it looks er clean. Then lubricate and once a year bin it and put a new one on. Chain rings and cassette are so far all 'clean' when I inspect for cleaning so I just leave. Over winter cassette get...
