Re: Fatbike 1x11 drive train

I missed the 2x9 bit. You might need to swap out the chainset to get a better chainline. That needs some digging around to find the offsets (from the centre line of the bike) of the current chainrings and what the ideal offset for a 1x should be. I'm used to Shimano with HT2 bottom bracket an...

Re: Fatbike 1x11 drive train

Any derailleur and cassette will do (the splines need to be compatible). You’ll need a new shifter as well plus might as well get new cable and outer. Unless the chainring is shot you shouldn’t need one of those.

Re: Pain and suffering

The other week Cath and I descended a bridleway near Addingham that I’d only ever run up many years ago. It was basically a bridleway version of those sunken cart tracks. The sides were about a metre apart but there was 30cm of nettles and brambles covering each side :o You could only just push the ...

Re: Could I have explained myself better (on a cyclist hate thread)?

Thinking a bit more about this. Maybe better to push against the hatred part rather than the cyclist bit.

As Phil notes, playing the logic card doesn’t really work as you are battling against a raw emotion.

Re: Could I have explained myself better (on a cyclist hate thread)?

Sadly Shaf, some people are just full of hate. If it wasn’t cyclists being the target it would be the disabled or any group that is “different”. Unfortunately this attitude is then fed by the culture wars from certain sections of politicians and the media who use it to divide the country and distrac...

Most likely a Jay - about the same size as a woodpecker (maybe a little bigger) - pink coloured with flashes of blue. You usually hear them though as they make a right racket.

Isla bikes

Not a "tell me about them..." request. I thought there was a thread about them stopping making bikes but a search shows that it was part of "Wiggle going into receivership" so... GCN did a piece on Isla that came out yesterday (2024-07-13) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhnRE2g6...

Re: Tubeless pump?

The pump end of a tubeless valve is just standard. They usually have a removable core to allow for adding sealant and faster air flow for seating the tyre but apart from that nothing unusual

Re: Tubeless pump?

Welcome :-bd

Are you after a pump for use at home getting the tyres on or one for the trail to reinflate?

The Airshot style ones are fine for home but any pump will do when out on the trail

Re: Recommend a dry bag for saddlebag holster

I can't remember if it was Dave Barter or John Climber but a few years ago someone did a test - they filled a Wildcat dry bag and an Alpkit dry bag with water and left them hanging up overnight*. In the morning the Wildcat bag was still full, the Alpkit wasn't. I've worn both out with use. But then ...

Re: Better Slate Than Never 2

The Croesor-Rhosydd through trip was one of those things I always wanted to do but never got round to. It came about because the owners of the two mines realised that their workings were very close and Croesor only had the one entrance so tunnelled the connection as an escape route, it's only a few ...

Re: BB200 2024

I didn't find Strata Florida as bad as the moorland section before it. The moorland just had me wishing for a fat bike, I followed the gpx quite tightly which meant some interesting pushes, had a brief stop to sort myself out and put warm clothes on before the descent to SF but then it went dark on...

Re: BB200 2024

I think Stu has commented that 2014 was a shock as it was a radical departure from the previous three which had been basically the same route. I didn't find Strata Florida as bad as the moorland section before it. SF was just keep moving and don't bother about getting wet because you are as wet as y...

A small world

With a bit of a dodgy forecast* I decided to go for a walk to pick up some VeloViewer squares above Gisburn Forest that are on the edge of my max square and ticking them off would bump that up a bit. Neither are legally accessible by bike but the first would have just been hike-a-bile there and back...

Anyone able to share some more info on Strata Florida pls. Anywhere that we can read about how and why 'substandard it was'. Ta  It was basically...

Re: Ultralightweight 2season sleeping bag?

You're quickly getting in to the "Light, cheap, quality - pick any two" terrain. For "ultra-cycling" events the question is really do you want just to recover and get a bit of rest or do you want a good night's sleep? For the former you want a system that lets you sleep but after...
