Re: Rovaniemi 150
Sized at least 1 or 1.5 times bigger than normal with VBL and wool socks or alternatively some thick seal skin socks ( they seem to work like a VBL and wool sock in one). Some things I use(d) for winter mountaineering: A thin neoprene sock (check kayaking gear) will work great as a VBL too. Alumini...

Re: Rovaniemi 150
To those who would like to use SPDs: I use mid high "Supplest" SPD shoes. About 3 sizes too big to accommodate thin polypro socks, VBL and very thick wool socks. They have a soft sole, which I think is the key – you need to be able to move and bend your feet freely in order to keep them wa...

A difference can also be due to using different (or no) tubes, sidewalls etc.
When I changed from butyl to latex tubes on my DH bike I had to adjust the damping. That's how big the difference is...

Nearly started fast forwarding, although I can stand 10 min POV only edits. Not the usual Salsa, I expected more. Very cheesy indeed. @composite: remember my little lock I used in Wales? Try one of those for your Spar shot - which I think of as a grand idea. I got a plasticised 2.5 mm x 1.5 m cable ...

Re: Not the best BB200 training ride
That's the good thing about that kind of seat post. The weak spot is the bolt.
Two spare bolts for longer trips is all it needs.
It's also a sensible place to check the right torque.
I use Thomson posts on my bikes (except for one that's got a reverb). Expensive but light and reliable.

Is the stove sitting on a Plexiglas under which you have a mirror?

Great read Composite! +1 Those iPhone 6 things can be charges in a microwave tho coz of the ios8 wave function anyway. Re: anyone bikepacking on a bouncy bike?
I bounce around all the time. But I don't like gravel roads and hate, deeply detest tarmac. Bring on technical and rough single tracks! At the moment it's a BMC Speedfox SF29. Loved it on the multi day trips in the UK. Only thing I should have changed long time ago is the front travel, from 100 to 1...

Re: Weight at the front or the back?
Light weight and bulk up front. Not more than 1 kg for me. I can't stand the feeling of even an additional ounce on the bars.
Weight in the frame or out back. I try to pack the saddle bag in such a way, that I can move freely around the saddle.

We mostly carry like this: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2848699/29/DSC01829s.jpg Especially if you carry a rucksack it comes in handy. That Giro shoe looks rather decent. Shame the sole isn't more aggressive. I use Mavic Alpine (with out the "XL"). Onto my second pair and they've be...

Re: Hike a bike - your view
I knew there would be more HaB on the Lakeland 200 and prepared my bike/ kit accordingl I guess this has been on topic here before, but I'd like to point out, that putting more weight onto your back will help a lot during HAB or CAB. If you go with a eg. Inov-8 Race Elite rucksack you can throw som...

Re: Hike a bike - your view
For many many fantastic single tracks in the Alps it's the only way of approach. If you don't want to miss out on riding decent stuff then you got to embrace HAB. It applies to any other place with mountains... I tend to say "if you haven't carried your bike, you haven't been mountainbiking&quo...

Re: Lakeland 200 - yet another ITT
Now you mention it, a space blanket was a slight omission from my kit. I had a spare top and a waterproof jacket. Several times I thought about putting them on and finding somewhere warm to lie down. My rucksack had a foam pad in the back for sleeping on. Rucksack… hhhmmm… sounds like a fair amount...

Not sure riding a bike for 27 hours and the concept of enjoyment are compatible. Well done Ian. All in one go and on SS... As if it would've been too easy. Just trying to imagine riding (and HAB) through the Lakes. Sounds grand. No sleeping kit what so ever? Space blanket, that's it? Anyhow, ...

Re: Removing fork remote
Got a Lyric on steroids with remote. This is what I did: Thread a short old cable (can be really short) through the spring loaded cap, just like you would to use the remote. Turn cap (might need helping hand) into desired position - lockout, in most cases, isn't more than a low speed compression dam...

Did it myself. Get's pretty practical but wouldn't want to use it on techy trails.
