Re: WRT 2014 Camping
Yeah, I'll be in that area on Sunday night. I'll probably camp in Hafren Forest or somewhere close by with a view

Mmmm, bacon and cheese. Added to anything (potatoes, pasta, bread, burgers) they improve it
How about longer than 1 night?

Re: Bikepacking snackage
Interesting ideas. Homemade flapjack isn't a bad idea
Imagine you have to carry lunch, not buy it. Do you eat the same stuff throughoutnd miss lunch, eat a bigger portion at lunchtime or pack something lunch specific. If so what is it?

Bikepacking snackage
What snacks do you guys pack to eat whilst riding? I mean bikepacking type riding rather than normal rides My favourites for walking are nuts and nut related goodie but these are too fat rich and carb light for cycling when the output is much higher so need something with more carb in them Was think...

Bought some of those humvees a while ago
Much lighter than normal humvees, they're nice but annoyingly have no back pocket!

Re: Leg warmers - any recommendations?
I can't remember if mine are Aldi or Lidl, but they're great
The arm warmers are too big though which is annoying. They came in one pack so can't take them back
Despite that, buying both is still cheaper than buying leg warmers on their own!

Re: GRs for decent pubs near WRT
Don't know any, but I'm planning to stop in Llanidloes on Sunday for lunch/dinner and looks like there are a few options
I'd like somewhere safe as I'm not sure if I'm bringing a lock for my bike

Re: anyone using one of these????
I've got a pack like this (think mine is the Snugpak Response Pack) Useful pack but haven't used mine in ages, mainly use it for bushcrafting duties. Would work as a bar bag with the right attachment, those straps used in the picture are just press stud poppers on mine so wouldn't hold, the other st...

Re: WRT route planning help
Quick update to say thanks for everyone's help
Not finished but been using a combination of sites, mainly os getamap, and the route is coming along nicely. Passing through more GRs than planned, currently about 80 miles so happy with progress so far

Re: What GPS
I have a Garmin Oregon 550t, although I only really use it for walking trips, or as a moving map if I'm out exploring on the mtb The WRT will be my first bike trip where I use it properly (that's the plan anyway, see other thread) Its quite spendy but I got it for an amazing price so wasn't a huge p...

Great, thanks
So sounds like you have to 'faff', but the result is good
Shame there's no one solution that is easy and free!

Re: WRT route planning help
When you 'copy that route' does that mean you look for the most similar bit you can on bikehike (by scanning around as you can't search for it), and then do the closest approximation possible?

Re: WRT route planning help
Chew, that's really helpful, thanks a lot The GRs are plotted on 4 paper OS maps, as well as in Garmin Basecamp and Google Maps so I can see the shape of them. Some questions: Do you put all the GRs into bikehike at the start or just do it section by section? Does bikehike give you a track or a rout...

WRT route planning help
All my previous trips have planned using oS maps, and as they're walking trips I can use the map to navigate I'd like to use my gps to navigate on the WRT (Garmin Oregon 550t) What do people use to plan the route and import to the GPS? I'm thinking about how the waypoints gets marked (which I've jus...

Map of WRT grid refs
I was playing around and have managed to plot a map of the grid refs so you can see where they all are Go to this website - http://www.hamstermap.com/quickmap.php Then copy and paste the following into the box on the bottom left (deleting anything already in there) 52.56433504 -3.656008005 52.562701...

Re: Practical clothing questions for the WRT
Cool, sounds like my normal walking set up. Usually put wet kit back on first thing in the morning and just man up I’m a bit of a sweaty monster so given I’m cycling I was thinking some of the kit might be pretty grimy by the end of the day My plan is to wear endura humvee 3/4 shorts, clickfast line...

Practical clothing questions for the WRT
Thinking about the WRT this year some clothing questions popped up, what do you do? Gloves – how many pairs do you take, just 1? (I was thinking about only taking one pair but how many take a back up pair) Socks – how many pairs do you take? (Was planning to wear one pair for cycling, probably short...
