Re: Carrying water
I tried most of the ways above but decided the convenience of a water bottle was one i missed. So i altered my Wildcat frame bag so i could use a bottle in a cage on the seat tube I use the the travel tap bottle, normaly without the filter but carrying the filter for when needed No pics of my own bu...

Re: waterproof trousers
I have used the montane atomic waterproof trousers for a while now and have been surprised at how well they have worn. They are a heavier duty version of the minimus i think. I splashed out and bought some Gore Alp X 3/4" ones in the sales but despite them working very well i have found i can o...

Re: Winter Waterproof Cycling Jacket?
I have a "Paramo" cycling waterproof. Ideal for october until march, too warm otherwise The thing about Paramo's is that their breathability is unsurpassed compared to all the "membrane" jackets . I wear it all day in winter over just a thin baselayer. The only thing i find is th...

Re: alfine v cassette
I love my Rohloff on My El Mariachi, having used it on a 26" wheeled bike it was noticeable how much smoother it was in 29" form.
My mate runs an El Mariachi too and ended up selling his Alfine 11 due it jumping out of gear a lot if the gear cables weren't perfectly adjusted.

SOLD : Nemo Meta 1P Tarp / Tent
I'm thinning the tent fleet I bought this from S8tannorm last year to give something a bit less tent like a whirl so i'm going to shamelessly borrow bits of his advert as i can't put it better myself "It's a Nemo Meta 1P tent/shelter. Think Lunar Solo but with more room (you could just squeeze ...

Re: Exposure cable connector size?
Hi
It's an unusual size. The plug is 4mm O.D and 1.7mm I.D
I managed to get some female sockets from ebay eventually
you could join a couple up with a bit of cable, heatshrink over the top, hey presto

Re: new pump??
having tried far too many useless tiny pumps i have settled on the lezyne HV drive medium. Cheap, light and pumps tyres up quick enough
There is a whole family of them but the posher ones are heavier.

Re: Freak failures
My Sabbath Ti seatpost sheared off at the seatclamp tonight. luckily i was on a quiet lane and i had a soft if ungainly landing in the dirt. Mostly my pride hurt. Any suggestions for a comfy replacement that isn't made of cheese Back in the early 90's i had a set of "orange" branded alloy ...

Re: Windshields for meths stoves
I've got a Triad and decided to make my own windshield from a poundshop foil platter. After much messing about i learnt the following. for fast boil times and best fuel economy you need a wide pan. My pan is an Evernew 600ml which is 13cm in diameter I tried it with a 11.5cm pan and this was slower ...

Re: Down Sleeping bags
In view of the Ian's need for wide temperature range can i suggest a 2 bag system, in particular the PHD combi idea, which has a summer bag at it's heart and a then you add a second bag around it for colder weather use. This has the advantage of being able to regulate the temperature easily if it is...

Some Tyvek Tips
I got some Tyvek from Restore-products.co.uk. It's sold by the meter off the roll and the roll width is 1.4m The tyvek is type 1422A and is different from the very stiff stuff ( often termed hard surface tyvek ). 1422A is much softer, quieter and is a bit lighter at 41gsm I'm going to make a ground ...

Re: bungee stuff
For a weight saving idea i would recommend velcro ( hook and loop ) staps. Check out the ones on backpackinglight.co.uk
The type they sell are infinitely adjustable.
I use similar ones ( 20mm wide ) to tie my stuffsack onto my handlebars so they will be plenty strong enough for anything cages

The problem i have found with many of the ultralight multitools is that the chain tool is made of cheese I swapped to a simple 2,3,4,5,6 & T25 tool ( Specialized EMT pro road if i recall ) and carry the head from the Topeak super chain tool ( as shown in Zippys photo above ) I use the stem cap b...

Re: Sinewave Revolution un-scientific findings
I use mine to charge a Samsung S4 mini phone. The Samsungs' don't seem bothered by the stopping and starting of charging and i don't get any notifications / beeping. In my unscientific testing whilst bikepacking it will take the phone from 50% to 75% charge in 3-4 hours whilst using the GPS / viewra...
