Re: BB 200 - training or winging it?
Been riding to work 3 times a week, one or two evening rides and a longer one with bivy in alternative weekends. Really not that many miles though. So really will be winging it! Also need to decide what bike to ride. I'm having a reshuffle so could ride 26er full suss or a 29er hard tail, have rigid...

Re: Smartphone mount advice?
I have a lifeproof case and bike mount as I use menorymap on iPhone for some navigation.
It's a fairly expensive option but I find it works very well for me.

Re: Headlight / torch recommendation
There is many bright hand torches that use AA's. from big brands like fenix and others to dealextreme or ebay specials, many of which are pretty good too. You can get rubber and Velcro connectors to stick it on your bars or helmet if needed as well. I think fenix sell a headband that you can clip on...

Re: FS: Ortlieb Classic Large Saddle Bag
I have one of these too. Mines not for sale though!
A very good bit of kit, I still use mine now and again despite now having a wildcat saddle device.
Good for around 4 litres capacity and very water proof.

Re: Bivvy a month for 2013
Had another August outing after work last night. Sort of training for the BB200. Only manged 63km partly due to finishing work later than planned, partly through tiredness. Still fun though! Headed up the north river don path to outibridge then over the (new super smooth) top roads to broom head res...

Re: First timer bikepacker
Hi mounty. There are a few older threads with many a picture on, it's worth a search to find them. There's also a very long thread on STW called sick as a dog so show me your bikepacking set ups. There's loads of pictures there. You've picked a good time to start; If you don't take to it in this weà...

Re: Bivvy a month for 2013
I got July part 1 in last night. Finished work at 10pm near the Northern General Hospital and went on the new super smooth tarmac of the loxley valley (recovered in reparation for next years TdF) to Bradfield. Headed up the dukes road and (cheekily) along to Back Tor. Was unbelievably warm even arou...

You can bodge those dry bags on with Velcro straps.
But - whilst it is true to say I'm significantly less biaised than other Ian may be - those Wildcat Tigers do a great job...

Cheers Mr S. I stuck it into memory map and it came out at a lot more than that. But I was a bit sloppy with my lines so it over counts by a fair bit.
Bizarrely 5000m doesn't sound so bad!!

Re: Bivvy a month for 2013
I'm still on (at least) one per month. Did the second trip this month Friday/Saturday. Left work at 6pm rode north through the woods to pick up the TPT at warncliff, followed that to hadfield then on to the pennine BW to bivy under south head. Ride home via roach clough, rushup edge. Breakfast in Ed...

@ianfitz - I meant relatively speaking for anyone ;) Rubber tyres of an ikon or Crossmark variety are also good I know Ian, just being a bit cheeky... :) I have some rubber crossmarks so will use them. I always like to find small things like tyre choice to occupy the 'worrying sector' of my brain. ...

Re: The BB 200 Thread
I predict that the route will be faster in reverse. maybe for you ian! ;- i'd be happy to do it 'just' as quick as you last year* I do have a question - how much is the total ascent on the route? this will be my first go and don't really know any of the route at all, other than going (in a minibus!...

Re: Ultralight weights - sub 25lb?
So I've taken the kit listed above and added 115g of Tooth brush and paste, sun cream, midge net and deet to the first aid kit. And splashed out by packing Coffee 12g. Also the extreme decadence of a spare pair of merino socks. Didn't weigh them! Have packed up the frame bag with food for a day+ and...

Re: Ultralight weights - sub 25lb?
Yes I have an 'embarrassment of riches' when it comes to Kit. I used to test kit for some brands and a retailer and have developed quite a kit habit. also after my granddad died a few years ago my grandma gave several family members some cash with the strict instructions that it was to be spent on t...

I live to read this kind of stuff, so thought us see how far I can take it away from being hyperthetical It's not quite as ultra light as possible but I just put the following items together and weighed them together at 1826g Phd minimus, phd dryshell sleeping bag cover, full length foam mat, ti pan...

I have a PHD 'sleeping bag cover' made out of their DriShell fabric. It's untaped on the seams but not sold as waterproof. It beads well though and is spot on for using under a tarp. I supliment it with 40g of polycro ground sheet. The bag weighs 151g on my scales. There's no mesh but it has a draw ...

Looks like they are in stock with high mobility gear.
I was very impressed with their service and my kit arrived very quickly. I'd use then again.

the cumulus 250 quilt i have has elastic string which has the duel function of closing up the 'slit' on the underside of the quilt and has slidelocks so you can fasten it to your mat. it works well with either a thin foam ora full length neoair. the straps mean the quilt stays still as i move about ...

don't know about uk stockists but cumulus uk declined to sell me a quilt recently, in the end i ordered it from http://www.highmobilitygear.com/PBCPPlayer.asp?ID=1172579 - Tierry from them was super helpful. not sure if they do bags too?
