I've had a prototype one on a rigid 26er with 1x9 gears and a non clutch mech. I've not dropped the chain despite riding on various rough surfaces. Rocks roots etc.

A new bike!

29er T'Inbred (lynsky built one) with 2x10, reba forks and X king tyres. Only ridden it a couple of times so far, but it ride lovely and is fast!

Not sure about the first bit you'll need to ride but, If you can hit the pennine bridleway anywhere south of chee dale you can turn right when you get to the Monsal trail.
