Re: Bargain Alert Thread

Someone might want an alpkit framebag for a large Cotic soul for £40. (not me)

Re: Pannier users - a q on chainstay lengths

I've used normal and disk specific panniers on my Rockhopper - the chainstays are 426 mm long, according to a sizing chart. The normal rack I use is a Blackburn disk-specific EX1, with home-made connectors. I've used 20 and 30 lt 'Crosso' panniers, and only occasionally get heel clip with the 30 lt ...

Right, I'm off to buy some Alpkit, fiddle with GPX files and weigh my titanium teabag strainer.

Re: Bikepacking sheep shearers - yes, really.

Very cool. I like the swag role slung over the top tube and then down each side of the fork - simple, but effective and presumably very stable.

On a similar note, Francis Birtles. Note the rifle mounted, outside of the role, on the fork.

WTD: Touring Forks (road bike)

Bit of a long shot, I realize, and possibly wildly intrusive in this forum, but I found a huge crack on the steel forks of my touring bike. Currently running a Frankenbike - tourer with suspension forks and a 26" front wheel. I'm looking for some touring forks, 1 and 1/8th inch, at least 23 cm ...

Re: Dry Bags

I've got a tiny red one for valuables - I've had it for six months or so without it falling apart yet, and no obvious evidence of disintegration. I haven't submerged it or anything, but it seem to hold the air well enough if you don't push it out first.

The lamina 20 (women's) fits into a 13l airlok.

My woman friend uses a lamina 20 (women's, though), so I'll check what size bag it stuff into this evening.

Seam sealing a MYOG drybag

I've converted some old MOD goretex waterproofs into an extra-long drybag for my foam mat, and was thinking I could fully waterproof it (rather than just splash proof) if I sealed the seams - this stuff seems to be the way to go; http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000XYUO6I/ref=asc_df_B000XYUO6I12816122?sm...

+1 for a separate MYOG forum. Could have sticky threads for sources of materials, buckles and such without crowding the general forum.

Re: Looking for a long narrow drybag

Lomo (already mentioned) are close and cheap; http://www.ewetsuits.com/acatalog/dry-b ... _355.html.

The MYOG option is to get an old pair of waterproof trousers, see if your mat fits in one of the legs, and then stitch one end up, add some buckles and edging to the other.

Revelate/Hiking in Finland competition

I'm sure a lot of you have seen this already but Hiking in Finland has a competition to win an ultralight relevate barbag. The entry is a (newish) trip report.

Presumably it's easier to dry out a synthetic bag if it does get wet? So, better for a trip where everything getting soaked is a likelihood?

Durability of airlocks?

I just got a 13 L airlock, not the airlock extra, for my PD600. Whilst very impressed with the weight, I can't help feeling worried I'll bust a seam when stuff the sleeping bag in. Anyone had one rip in normal use or been surprised by their hardiness?

Re: What do you do when you're alone? (no not that)

I'd be surprised if DAB worked in the Cairngorms, it still needs a radio signal. If you wanna go Mp3 - The Sansa clip+ is great little player, you can get them with 8 gb internal memory and an SD card slot. The power will last for about 15 hours of use. They cost about £30, weigh 20 grams. Also they...

Re: MYOG Bar Harness.

certainly looks solid enough, my one suggestion might be to add some kind of semi-compressable or adjustable spacers at the top to reduce the 'hanging' distance at the top of the dry bag. should improve stability, if you find that's an issue. You can see them on the Revelate sweet roll in some of th...

Was looking at the Multimat site and they all seem very similar but with different marketing spiel. Yeah, I've got a couple. One of these in medium (I think); http://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/multimat_adventure_l_closed_cell_foam_mat.html It's only 3/4 season. It's certainly not as comfortable as an airmat, but I personally don't find that to be too much of an issue normally. You can slice t...

Re: First Post, Second Sewing Project, MYOG Frame Pack

This might be really obvious, but make a full size model first - paper, card or even (heavy duty) bin bag and a lot of tape should work. You can use this to fine tune the design before slicing any material, and with some additions, use it as a template. Also I find it really annoying to not be able ...
